Paramount+ Greenlights Mo Willems’ ‘The Elephant & Piggie Show’ and ‘The Pigeon Show!’

Paramount+ is getting into the Mo Willems’ animated animal business in a big way. The streamer announced today that it has greenlit two animated series, The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! Starring the Pigeon, based on the best-selling children’s author and illustrator’s books. This is the first time Paramount+ is collaborating with the author’s Hidden Pigeon production company.

“Mo Willems has delighted kids and ‘former kids’ around the world with these beloved characters,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. “Whether it’s Elephant and Piggie navigating the hard work of ‘best-friending’ or The Pigeon confusing wants and needs (a hot dog! a cookie! to drive the bus!), these characters remind us that the best stories are the ones that make us laugh and feel something real. We’re thrilled to bring them to life on Paramount+.”

“We are so excited to be partnering with Paramount+ to further expand the world of Mo Willems through these two new series,” said Karen K. Miller, CEO of Hidden Pigeon Company. “We can’t wait to present more of the characters and stories that kids everywhere already know and love in ways that will surprise and delight them at every turn.”

The Elephant & Piggie Show! is described as a warm, comedic pre-K series about the hilarious and sometimes challenging work of “best-friending.” The series takes place in the small, walkable neighborhood of Willemsburg, which is full of new locations audiences will love. Elephant Gerald is careful; his best friend Piggie is not. Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to and together, along with young audiences, they will celebrate the messy and joyful art of friendship.

The Pigeon Show! Starring the Pigeon animates the day-to-day struggles of a pigeon who just wants to be listened to. He will be your best friend if you have a bus and you let him drive it. The series features familiar characters from Willems’ books, such as the adorable Duckling who always seems to get what she wants, plus new characters, like The Pigeon’s 150-million-year-old pterodactyl grandmother, Nana-Dactyl, and his best wing-pals, Ima Pigeon and Doug Pigeon.

Willems is a #1 New York Times best-selling author and illustrator who has received the Caldecott Honor on three occasions (for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity). His popular Elephant & Piggie early reader series has been awarded two Theodor Seuss Geisel Medals (for There Is a Bird on Your Head! and Are You Ready to Play Outside?) and five Geisel Honors (for We Are in a Book!, I Broke My Trunk!, Let’s Go for a Drive!, A Big Guy Took My Ball!, and Waiting Is Not Easy!). Mo began his career as a writer on Sesame Street, where he received six Emmy Awards.,

David Ellison And Paramount’s New Regime Vows To Boost Nickelodeon And Family-Friendly Content, Invest In Paramount+ And Hang On To Cable Channels

BET Networks is no longer being shopped to third-party buyers, the new leadership regime at Paramount Skydance confirmed on Wednesday, August 13 as top executives gathered for a wide-ranging Q&A with journalists.

David Ellison, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the studio that he acquired last week, told reporters that BET and its content franchises would be a key part of the new regime’s streaming strategy. Ellison said the plan is to operate the company with its assets intact — that’s in contrast to the string of assets sales that Paramount Global and its predecessors have done in recent years. BET in particular had been shopped to a number of prospective buyers in private equity and prominent Black investors and stars including Tyler Perry.

Ellison said the concept of keeping Paramount Pictures, CBS and other assets together was a key point of his earliest discussions last year about buying the studio with former Paramount Global chair and majority shareholder Shari Redstone.

“We had this conversation with Shari when we had the first meeting, actually about the company. It is our intention is to keep the company together and invest in that lens,” Ellison said.

“We’re thinking about the cable network is not as declining linear assets that we need to spin them up or deal with somehow. We’re thinking about those brands that we have to redefine,” Ellison said. “Nickelodeon is also one of those. Fids and family is so important to the world and making sure that we’re doing the right thing for Nick and that whole cadre of content is critically important to us as well.”

Overall, Ellison and his top lieutenants sketched out a roadmap for the new Paramount Skydance team’s priorities that include increased investment in the Paramount Pictures studio, CBS and the Paramount+ streaming platform. Ellison and Paramount president Jeff Shell reiterated that the plan is to consolidate the company’s major streaming assets — subscription service Paramount+ and free ad-supported (FAST) platform Pluto TV — into one central service to save operating costs and to make Pluto TV a better driver of subscriptions for Paramount+.

Joining Ellison and Shell at the session were Andy Gordon, Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer; George Cheeks, Chair of TV Media; Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television; Josh Greenstein, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Vice Chair of Platforms; and Cindy Holland, Chair of Direct-to-Consumer.

Asked point blank if the programming budget for Paramount+ will increase to make the service competitive with larger rivals such as Disney+ and HBO Max, Ellison said yes. Cindy Holland, the Netflix alum who is leading streaming operations for the new Paramount, was also blunt when asked if she intends to commission made-for-streaming movies from the sibling studio. “Made for streaming movies are not a priority for me,” she said.

Gerry Cardinale, head of RedBird Capital which also had a big role in financing the $8 billion transaction, offered an expansive view of a team ready to spend what it takes to upgrade Paramount’s aging infrastructure. Cardinale complimented Ellison for being a savvy business executive in addition to having the creative ambition to own a movie studio, Big Three broadcast network and more.

“I’m betting my firm and my career on this deal. That should tell you guys one thing: We are coming, we are going to invest, and we’re going to be really sophisticated. This is not other people’s money,” Cardinale said. He even suggested that the Paramount Skydance ethos would not only change the corporate culture at Paramount and CBS but influence the broader industry.

The new regime is thinking about “How do we build the culture, not just for Paramount but for Hollywood,” Cardinale said. “I could not be more excited. Yes we are going to be investing a lot of money, and we’re going to show the great return on that investment.”

Among other highlights from the Q&A session:

“I’m here because I love movies,” Ellison said flatly when discussing his motivations for executing the complex acquisition that took more than a year to complete. The 42-year-old CEO described Sundays spent watching movies on VHS with his mother. “Our idea of a good time on Sunday was, we had 3,000 VHS movies, and Sunday was the one day we were kids that we could actually do whatever we wanted. And we would just binge all day long.”

Ellison also saluted the star that has had a long association with Paramount and Skydance when pressed about the status of the studio’s follow-up film to 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick.

“We’re really proud and honored that in our partnership with Tom, we have made 10 movies together. We want to be in business with Tom for the foreseeable future,” Ellison said. "Top Gun cannot be a bigger priority. I want to be making movies with Tom and telling stories with Tom for as long as he wants to be doing it. There’s nobody who works harder and who loves movies and loves business more.”

Ellison was pressed about the new regime’s view on CBS News. The slog of closing the merger took a toll on the Eye’s news division as President Donald Trump waged war with a baseless $20 billion lawsuit against 60 Minutes over its Kamala Harris interview. A $16 million settlement with Trump paved the way for the FCC to approve the Paramount Global Skydance transaction.

CBS News and the journalism it produces “is something that is incredibly important to me that we couldn’t support more,” Ellison said. “It’s also the area of company that we want to invest in. For sure it’s a vital part of our democracy, and it’s an honor to be part of that organization.

Goldberg, co-chair of Paramount Pictures and Paramount Television, buttressed Ellison’s pledge to invest in strong family and YA-friendly movies and TV shows. “That’s a space we’re going to run toward,” she said.

Goldberg also emphasized that there will be a new approach to managing Paramount’s valuable Star Trek franchise. "Star Trek is absolutely a priority, and it’s priority across the company,” Goldberg said. “We’re not going to be siloed off so that there’s a conversation happening about television and another conversation” about film plans.

Ellison made a point of asserting that the new ownership group is aligned with the interests of Paramount Skydance’s common shareholders. The company is bracing for widespread layoffs that will be part of the company’s pledge to find $2 billion in savings post-merger.

“What we need to do to make sure we can run as efficiently possible can as a company. And then the other is where we need to invest for growth, for long term,” Ellison said. He noted that the Ellison family and RedBird own 70% of the economic interest in the company. “We’re the largest shareholders. So from that standpoint, we’re going to look at everything through a long-term value creation lens.”

‘SpongeBob’ Universe Expands With Three Paramount+ Spinoff Movies, New Theatrical Film

Three new SpongeBob SquarePants character spinoff movies for Paramount+ are in the works at Nickelodeon Studios, in addition to a new theatrical release about the porous resident who lives in a Pineapple-under-the-sea. The news was announced today by Brian Robbins, Chief Content Officer, Movies and Kids & Family for Paramount+ at the ViacomCBS Investor Event.

The first of Paramount+’s SpongeBob character spinoff movies, which focus on different Bikini Bottom residents, will drop in 2023.

The expansion of the SpongeBob franchise follows the recent success of SpongeBob series offshoots Kamp Koral on Paramount+ and The Patrick Star Show on Nickelodeon, the first season of which will be available soon to stream on Paramount+.

Paramount has made three SpongeBob feature movies, the first in 2004, which altogether have grossed close to $471M worldwide. The highest grossing installment was 2015’s The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water which grossed over $325M WW. However, because of the pandemic, Paramount was forced to pull The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run from U.S. release in 2020. The sequel received a Canadian theatrical release in August of that year, making $4.8M, while the film in the states served as the branded launch for Paramount+ in 2021. The pic’s foreign rights, except for China, were sold to Netflix.

“As we’ve known with Nickelodeon’s long-standing success, the kids and family audience is incredibly loyal, and we see that on Paramount+ as well, with kids and family ranking as one of the strongest genres on the service in terms of both engagement and subscriber acquisition,” said Robbins. “So as they stay for our shows and look for even more of them, we’re doubling down on giving them what they want by expanding the universes of the characters they love the best.”

Paramount Confirms Merger Plans For Their Streaming Service

Also Read

For many months now, Hollywood insiders and industry commentators have been talking about Paramount+ — at least the service as it currently exists — as a dead streamer walking. This week, however, the obituary notices started coming from within the building.

During a shareholder presentation Tuesday, the three execs currently running Paramount Global (at least for now; the company may be on the verge of being sold) announced that they had a plan to “transform” the company’s streaming strategy, which currently focuses on the stand-alone streamer Paramount+ (and, to a lesser degree, free streamer Pluto TV). Toward this end, the trio said they had begun actively exploring the formation of a joint venture with either a rival streamer or a tech company — and that they’d already received interest from possible partners. While they didn’t go into any details of what such a joint venture would entail, both history and common sense suggest an outcome where Paramount+ either becomes a tile on another service, or its content gets folded into a new or existing platform featuring content from multiple companies, similar to how Hulu at one time existed as a partnership among ABC, NBC, and Fox’s corporate owners.

The execs went out of their way to stress that they’re not thinking small here. “Let me clear: I’m not talking about marketing bundles,” like the one Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery are planning, said Chris McCarthy, president/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks, and part of Par’s three-headed exec branch. Instead, the company is looking to form “a deep and expansive relationship, one that would make the most of our hit content while improving the customer offering.” McCarthy said Par wants a new paradigm that both reduces subscriber churn and, perhaps most importantly, controls cost.

It’s not that Par execs think their programming isn’t popular enough to work in a subscription universe. Quite the opposite: The exec trio talked up the populist appeal of its content and noted Paramount+’s ability to become a top-five streamer just a couple of years after launch, with over 70 million global subscribers. But Paramount has decided the costs of running its own streaming service — marketing dozens of shows, finding a user interface that actually works, etc. — are too high. Instead, it wants to create a new blueprint where Paramount content (CBS shows, MTV reality series, the Yellowstone universe, Paramount Pictures movies) has a guaranteed home, but not in an expensive, self-contained luxury island where Par shareholders pay the full mortgage. Think of it this way: Paramount wants to move its streaming offering from the ritzy mountaintop mansion where it’s lived the past few years and relocate it to a still very nice duplex condo where another owner (or owners) helps pay for building upkeep.

To underscore just how serious they were about moving on from the current Paramount+ status quo, McCarthy said the company has “already had a great deal of an inbound interest” in the idea and that there would be more details “soon.” It’s worth noting here that back in February, The Wall Street Journal reported that Paramount had engaged in conversations with Peacock owner Comcast about a Peacock–Paramount+ merger “through a partnership or joint venture” — the exact same wording McCarthy used this week. The paper has also reported Warner Bros. Discovery’s interest in a team-up. Nothing has happened publicly on this front, in part because of the aforementioned potential sale to David Ellison’s Skydance Media, producer (with Par) of the recent Mission: Impossible and Top Gun movies and TV shows like Reacher and Jack Ryan. Per multiple published reports, the Skydance-Paramount deal is both all but done and possibly in doubt, given some supposed last-minute doubts from Shari Redstone, the media mogul who basically controls Paramount through her family’s movie-theater chain National Amusements.

It’s this uncertainty that may explain why Tuesday’s admission by Paramount’s current leadership that Paramount+ as a stand-alone business no longer makes sense hasn’t generated a ton of headlines. Fact is, as long as there’s a strong chance that new ownership could be taking over, any plans from the current “office of the CEO” of Paramount Global come with a major asterisk attached. It’s hard to imagine any potential Paramount+ partner would sign a deal without knowing for sure that either the people executing said deal will be around to see it through or that the new owners are onboard with the idea. And then there’s this: Many in the media and Wall Street have been operating under the assumption that Paramount+ as it is now isn’t long for this world, and that any new owner, including Skydance, would look to make a meaningful change in streaming. (In fact, I continue to hear rumblings from very good sources that a Peacock–Paramount+ team-up of some sort is more likely than not, however the current ownership drama gets resolved.) So the fact that the current management officially signed on shaking things up might not read as worthy of a breaking-news alert.

But if Redstone’s supposed waffling ends with the Skydance bid being called off and Paramount Global moving forward with one or all of its current leaders, then this week will go down as a very important milestone in the streaming wars. Five years after Apple and Disney officially kicked off hostilities versus Netflix in the race to win SVOD share, a major combatant could be getting ready to sue for peace.

Paramount And Amazon Reportedly Enter Talks For New Streaming Bundle

Also Read

Recently Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a deal that would see Max, Hulu, and Disney+ bundle. After that Comcast announced a bundle of Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+. Now Bloomberg is reporting that Amazon and Paramount are in talks about a possible streaming bundle.

According to the report, Paramount and Amazon are in early talks to offer a bundled version of their streaming service. Paramount already owns multiple streaming services, including Paramount+ and BET+. They could be bundled on their own through Amazon channels or possibly bundled with Amazon’s own streaming services like Amazon Prime Video or MGM+.

The talks are not a done deal, and Bloomberg says it is possible nothing may come from them. Paramount has also reportedly been in talks with Peacock about a bundle option, but no deal has been reached at this time.

Bundles have widely been seen as a quick way for services to gain subscribers. They are also seen as a way to lock in subscribers for longer. Increasingly streaming services are fighting a growing trend of cord cutters rotating streaming services in 2024. This impacts profit, and customers binge everything they want in a month or two instead of keeping a subscription long term. Bundles could tempt customers to be locked in for longer by offering more content.

Paramount+ Removes 10 Nickelodeon Titles Including ‘Blue’s Clues & You!’ & ‘Rugrats’ Series

Paramount+ has purged 10 Nickelodeon original series, following the removal of other Nick titles from the platform over the past several months.

The list includes Are You Afraid of the Dark? (2019-2022), Blue’s Clues & You! (2019), It’s Pony (2020-2022), Middlemost Post (2021-2022), Ollie’s Pack (2020), Ryan’s Mystery Playdate (2019-2023), Santiago of the Seas (2020), That Girl Lay Lay (2021-2024) as well as the made-for-Paramount+ Big Nate (2022)and Rugrats (2021).

This is said to be part of content removal addressed in the most recent Q4 earnings call on February 28. Targeting Nick titles is a little surprising as, according to parent Paramount Global, the network’s Kids & Family content consistently ranks among the most watched and re-watched programming on Paramount+.

“In connection with our continued review of our international content strategy, during the first quarter of 2024 we made a strategic decision to focus on content with mass global appeal,” the company said in its 10-K filing. “As part of this, we are rationalizing original content on Paramount+, especially internationally, and improving the efficiency of our linear network programming. As a result, we have reviewed our expansive global content portfolio and are removing select content from our platforms.”

Paramount expects “to recognize additional programming charges that we currently expect to be in the range of approximately $700 million to $900 million during the first quarter of 2024.”

Rugrats is an American animated television series created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó, and Paul Germain. Based on the series of the same name, it featured the voices of Nancy Cartwright, E.G. Daily, Kath Soucie, Cheryl Chase, Tony Hale and Cree Summers.

The series premiered on May 27, 2021, on Paramount+; it is the second Nickelodeon-based series created for the streaming service. As with previous incarnations of the franchise, the series is produced by Klasky Csupo.

Just like the original series, Rugrats focuses on the experiences of a courageous, adventurous one-year-old baby named Tommy Pickles and his group of playmates and other infants. It does come with some minor variations specifically for the character, Betty DeVille.

During the year, Disney made numerous headlines after axing several shows including Bunk'd and The Ghost And Molly McGee. With the future of Hailey's On It, The Villains Of Valley View and Raven's Home still in doubt as their current seasons wrap production.

Nickelodeon serving as a rival brand to the company had allocated new episodes of That Girl Lay Lay on Nicktoons with reports going around that Rugrats would follow soon. Often, when shows are axed by the network they would fold under secondary networks.

Not long ago, Danger Force wrapped production on Nickelodeon after 3 seasons leaving The Really Loud House and Young Dylan as the only live-action. With a wider line-up of animated shows like Big Nate, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Patrick Star Show.

iCarly Revival Cancelled After 3 Seasons On Paramount+

"iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+," a spokesperson for the streamer told sources in a statement. "The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together. We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity, and talent."

The first iteration of iCarly aired on Nickelodeon from 2007-2012 and starred Miranda Cosgrove as an early internet influencer whose titular web show becomes very popular. Jennette McCurdy played her best friend Sam, and Nathan Kress played her friend/love interest Freddie, while Jerry Trainer portrayed Carly's older brother Spencer.

All of those principals (except for McCurdy, whose recent memoir I'm Glad My Mom Died explains her retirement from acting) returned for the Paramount+ reboot in 2021, which further explored the romance between Carly and Freddie.

Kress mourned the cancellation on Twitter, writing that the crew "had a lot of story left to tell." He said, "Maybe somehow, someday, we'll find out how to story ends."

"The best people I've ever worked with in the business," Laci Mosley, who joined the reboot cast as Carly's roommate Harper, wrote on Twitter. "Thank you for tuning in to the reboot. Everyone put their deeply kind talented souls into this."

Escaping Gibby: A Look Into The Life Of Noah Munck From The Comfort Of His Sadworld

Also Read

When he appeared on set you knew something funny or strange or downright uncomfortable was about to happen.

Gibby was a chubby, outlandish yet lover character casted on Nickelodeon's most popular live-action series in history, iCarly. Noah Munck is the actor behind the Gibby character. He was originally suppose to be on 1 or 2 episodes but he provided so much comedic value that the producers kept him on as a regular.

Overtime, Gibby got tired of the corny, childish humour and constantly being the butt of the joke brought a lot of ramifications in his real life including people shutting his name out loud to take his shirt off and dance. You'll probably be surprised to find out what Noah's career looks like today which consists of cryptic and esoteric videos alongside an underground music career.

Today, we're gonna look at how Noah's life was impacted by iCarly and how he managed to escape his identity as Gibby.

Noah Munck was a typical Orange County teenager who played football and went to public school. He knew he was interested in arts so he got into acting classes which led to him doing plays and performances. His acting classes would have talent agent auditions where agents would come and look for the next big star.

At 10 years old, he got an agent who got him his first audition which was for the show iCarly. The audition was just for an episode or 2 but the production team realised how valuable he'd be as a goofy side character so he became a regular for 57 episodes.

iCarly was about a young girl who ran a internet blog with millions of viewers. Her best friend Sam is her co host, her friend Freddy is their filmer/tech support and it is all filmed in the upstairs of her brother's apartment.

Gibby is just a kid that goes to school with them, he's an easy target for jokes and he is someone they can pick on. By the end of season 1, he became more of a friend to them a wacky friend but he has a lot of endearing qualities to him. He's sweet, very friendly, pretty stupid but he isn't someone you want to bully.

He was totally unrelatable consistently doing ridiculous things that you're totally excited for the unpredictability that he would bring next. He was mostly famous for saying his character name as a catchphrase and taking his shirt off frequently that it became a normal thing.

At the time, Noah didn't this as iCarly was his first acting job ever so he was basically willing to do anything. However, Noah was aware of what people were saying about him online. iCarly was a TV show about a web show that actually had a website with blog posts and trivia. Viewers could also leave comments on the website.

Noah said at the age of 10/1 he was reading rude comments about his appearance which made him feel bad. His parents discovered a website for people with fat boy fetishes that he was posted all over. Needless to say, Noah had mixed emotions about the whole taking his shirt off thing.

His parents never forced him to continue acting because it was his passion. They were always around and kept a close eye on him. Noah speaks nothing but the highest of praise for his parents.

In a tweet, it was revealed that Noah and his iCarly co-star Nathan had a love for dubstep. Noah said when he was around 13, one of the iCarly crew members Daniel Gonzalez gave him MF Doom and Dayla Soul mixtapes which drove his love for music and led him to become a music producer/DJ.

The last iCarly episode was filmed later in 2011 and by season 4 and 5, Gibby was the main character, his success and evolution was popular in iCarly that series creator Dan Schneider felt his character deserved his own spinoff TV show of the same name which remains a mystery.

There was a pilot episode filmed and edited according to Dan but never aired or leaked onto the internet. All that was available was the title card and logo for the show alongside the script for the very first episode, photos of the cast and set it was filmed. No one knows what happened, all that we know is Gibby never got his own show and 2012 marked the official end of iCarly.

5 seasons of what people consider to be the best live-action show of all time, Noah stayed busy trying to get roles in other projects. Later in 2012, he got a lead role in Nicky Deuce which is meant to the reboot of The Sopranos which has some of the original cast members.

The film didn't go to theatres and it isn't highly praised or anything but acting alongside those legends was an absolute accomplishment. After this film, Noah was sick of children's TV and the corny humour that he knew it was time to leave that behind.

In 2013, he went back to high school for his senior year, he doesn't consider himself a social outcast but had a difficult time mixing with kids who knew each other their whole lives. He would spend most of his free time on Ableton learning how to make music.

He produced dubstep under the name nobsik then moved on to EDM trap and even experimented with rapping a little bit. It didn't take him long to want to get back into acting luckily he landed a role as Naked Rob in the 1980s based sitcom, The Goldbergs.

Noah acts as a side character that is a best friend to one of the main characters, he's starred in several episodes across 9 seasons and somehow managed to bag shows that managed to last him an average amount of seasons.

However it seemed as if Noah had the ghost of Gibby lurking around him. His new passions were not met up with the utmost praise from fans, he was 18 at the time and a few years removed from Nickelodeon.

Whenever he would post about his new projects or anything he was interested in, he'd be flooded with troll and hate comments, accompanied by people who would make him feel insecure about his appearance. He abandoned the Noah Munck Twitter and Instagram because of trolls and people calling him Gibby.

Gibby was kind of a punching bag in the show so he feels that the fans do it back to him. Not figuring out how to seperate Gibby the character and Noah Munck in real life. Noah doesn't take it too personally but it gets tiring when you want to move on your life and talk about your interests and everyone wants you to remain that thing as you were at the age of 13.

He did also deal with people demanding him to take his shirt off literally yelling across a restaurant while he is eating with his family. One time, a random girl just jumped on his back while he was walking across the street. He started to resent the Gibby character a little bit.

Noah is truly a sweet and wholesome guy, he didn't want to resent his past, it led to an angsty face for him. He really leaned to his passion of SoundCloud rap and producing. He started an obscure YouTube channel called Sadworld Online

Then 20 year old started posting his material which included poorly scripted shitpost comedy that quickly developed a cold fanbase. All the music in the YouTube series was produced by him which helped fans get interested in his music. The raunchy side of humour is something we all needed, the TVMA rated Gibby that no one could make fun of Noah anymore because he embraced his appearance and leaned to it for comedy.

He genuinely built a fanbase of his new art, at one point it bothered him that his embarassing moments were on the internet forever now he looks back at the Gibby character fondly.

Sadly, Gibby did not make a return for the iCarly reboot in 2021 or make an appearance in season 2. A fan asked Jake Hogan, a writer on the iCarly reboot about Noah's absence and replied "we approached him".

This means that they had reached out to him but he denied it could have been a couple of things. He was probably busy working hard on another show and side projects. Another reason similar to how anyone would feel about reboots he wants to leave Gibby in the past.

Only in the past few years did he come to terms with the Gibby character before that he did mixed emotions. He knew that if he had to return for the reboot he had to relive the struggles of Gibby where people will flood social media about his appearance, his acting career would hit the mercy of one character. A lot of actors want to outlive their roles plus we all know that they'd want him to take his shirt off at least once which as a grown man some people may not be interested in.

Noah managed to remove the box of Gibby and now he can look at it as a positive experience all from the comfort of his Sadworld.

kykNET Lekker is part of a mysterious open window

In December 2022, MultiChoice opened up kykNET Lekker (DStv 148) which was exclusive to only Access customers to their DStv Premium, Compact+, Compact and Family with not much info available as it occurred prior to the festive holidays.

As school's reopened and consumers reverted back to their daily lives, a source at kykNET was able to confirm that kykNET Lekker is in fact an open window but couldn't provide any more details other than what you already heard.

Basically, the kykNET Lekker's open window is what has been seen from 2022 - a mystery. The channel isn't listed on other packages compared to when channels like Nickelodeon have open windows and them listed on that package and the other having to be the lack of info regarding the channel.

Another video game is getting a TV adaptation

Paramount+ has given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order to an adaptation of Hasbro’s wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise. Red Notice filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote the pilot script and is set to direct the first episode of the series which will be a co-production between eOne and Paramount Pictures.

eOne, the lead studio, took the project out in November, garnering interest from multiple buyers, with Paramount+ ultimately landing the show in a competitive situation. eOne and Paramount Pictures are partnering on the Dungeons & Dragons series after also co-producing and co-financing the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie directed by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley, which premieres March 31.

At Paramount+, the Dungeons & Dragons series will join Halo, the video game adaptation, which is one of the streamer’s most popular originals. Over the last couple of years, there has been a resurgence in bringing gaming titles to television, and this is the latest example.

Roblox TV series is coming to Kartoon Channel

Aimed at tweens, Kidaverse Roblox Rumble (10 eps between eight and 15 minutes long) will follow a group of contestants ages eight to 12 as they compete for a grand prize of US$1,000.

The kids must avoid getting eliminated in each round by winning a variety of physical games, including everything from an arctic obstacle course, to a dune buggy race. GBI will also turn these offline challenges into Roblox games.

Former NFL star Rashad Jennings (pictured) will host the series, which should launch on GBI’s Kartoon Channel! later this year. Jennings is an avid gamer himself, and the author of The Coin Slot Chronicles, a kids book series published by Zonderkidz.

Velma is receiving criticism from several Scooby-Doo fans

HBO Max’s latest adult-oriented animation Velma will be premiering on Jan. 12 and fans of the Mystery Inc. Gang have been anticipating the Scooby Doo gang origin story (minus the mystery-solving dog). The show is executive produced by Mindy Kaling of The Office and The Mindy Project fame and the star will voice the near-sighted main character as she forms relationships with the rest of the Scooby crew. As the show’s premiere date draws closer, Velma‘s plot synopsis is making the rounds on social media and even the most diehard Scooby fans are not impressed.

A tweet by @LightsCameraPod shared the synopsis, describing it as “certainly something.” Twitter users evidently agreed and quickly began roasting the synopsis which reads as follows:

“At Crystal Cove High School, Daphne (Constance Wu) is a popular mean girl orphan who deals drugs because of a dark family secret. Her boyfriend Fred (Glenn Howerton) personifies mediocre white richness. His mansion holds a dark secret — and he has teeny widdle privates, a subject of much conversation. “Shaggy” has become Norville (Sam Richardson), a school-newspaper striver friendzoned by his beloved Velma. He worries he’s a beta male; remember that lame humor concept from 20 years ago?”

Recap To 2022: AMC Networks, Paramount Global Push Through Major Layoffs Which Could Lead To Cutback Of Channels

It looks like The Walking Dead may not be the only thing that has come to an end at AMC Networks, which operates the AMC cable TV channel, IFC, We TV, and Sundance TV. According to The Wall Street Journal, a memo has been sent to staff warning them of major layoffs on the way.

“We of course realize that this will cause significant concern and anxiety for our employees and those who rely on AMC Networks for their livelihood,” AMC Chairman James Dolan wrote. “We do not take this lightly. We will take every step possible to minimize the impact of these actions on our community.”

All told, AMC Networks plans to lay off 20% of U.S. workers. Essentially, the reason is more people turning to streaming for their entertainment needs. AMC Networks also operates the AMC+ and Shudder streaming services, but as Dolan’s memo laid out, those services haven’t brought in enough to offset losses.

AMC operates streaming services, but they’re not successful enough to prevent layoffs

It’s tough to think that the network that has given us shows like The Walking Dead, Mad Men and Breaking Bad has been taking such a major hit this year; their stock has dipped 40%. At least The Walking Dead series finale gave AMC+ its biggest day of viewership since it began; that’s something!

According to sources, AMC Network isn’t the only one undergoing major layoffs. Paramount Global is laying off around 30 people as the company aligns CBS Studios, Paramount TV Studios, and the Paramount+ scripted originals team.

What’s happening at Paramount Global doesn’t sound as bad as what’s going on at AMC Networks. It’s more about organization and figuring out how to make things work more efficiently for the studios. Although that doesn’t mean the layoffs don’t hurt.

Former StarSat Channel Home To Inside The Factory And Air Warriors Is Closing Down In The UK

Also Read

The Smithsonian Channel is an international channel operated by Paramount Global which is home to factual shows such as Inside the Factory, How Did They Build That?, WWII Battles in Color, Air Warriors, Ocean Super Predators and many more.

The channel was available in Africa alongside Love Nature a while back on StarSat as a replacement to National Geographic and National Geographic Wild as the pay-tv platform got into a bit of a disagreement with their suppliers, The Walt Disney Company.

Prior to that, The Smithsonian Channel was also allocated on the East African platform Zuku TV but I prefer to credit StarSat since consumers are more familiar with the platform.

Anyways, The Smithsonian Channel what can I say I'm not too familiar with the brand and I only knew of existence when it was introduced by StarSat but what was more shocking was that it's owned by Paramount that are home to various popular brands most of which are on DStv.

But considering how they screwed over VH1 I'm the least bit shocked that they'd be another channel lurking around the same corner.

StarSat:
Delayed SABC channel launch on StarSat explained
Russia Today to launch South African hub
StarSat trying to be DStv friendly
BYUtv should be added onto StarSat
StarSat to offer more African dubbed telenovelas
Could StarSat be losing two more channels?

From what I can establish no actual reason was given for The Smithsonian Channel's exit in the African market my guess on StarSat has to do with costs as they've scrapped over 40 channels most of which weren't even replaced to date.

But considering the times both Love Nature and The Smithsonian Channel both left the platform it's possible that may not be the case as Zuku TV fell prey to similar circumstance.

During the week, officials announced the exit of The Smithsonian Channel in the UK with consumers having to rely on Paramount+ for more factual entertainment which has just got me thinking. Is it possible that the termination in Africa may have something to do with what's already seen in the UK?

I mean I kind of suggested that theory a while back that The Smithsonian Channel's demise had to do with streamlining efforts.

I've got nothing to say about The Smithsonian Channel except for the fact that a lot of viewers depend on the channel but I think part of the reason it got scrapped had to do with the rivalry with National Geographic and Discovery both of which offer similar entertainment.

The Walt Disney Company:
- The Good Doctor getting a female led spinoff
- King Kong Series in development
- The Walt Disney Company to extend the reach of Star Channel
- DStv Streama now offers Disney+
- List of scrapped spinoffs for The Simpsons
- Disney Television Animation unveils Kiff!

National Geographic is about to undergo a similar fate leaving Discovery and from what I've seen Curiosity and BBC Earth to cater for these audiences or at least in Africa.

Paramount+ besides carrying content from The Smithsonian Channel will also leverage from MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, CBS and many more. Although I have yet see them streamline their linear offering I had noticed that they've been closing irrelevant or non-performing channels.

The Smithsonian Channel was neither but I do feel it's presence on Paramount+ will help the brand gain more acknowledgement.

Roundups #112: Monster High Renewed For Second Season, A Ninth Instalment To Harry Potter Might Be On The Cards And Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot Practically Dead

Nickelodeon welcomes back a returning show

Fangtastic! Monster High has been renewed for a second season at Nickelodeon. The decision comes just weeks after the first season premiered on the network. That first season has yet to wrap, but now the network is expressing strong faith in the series by giving a go-ahead for another year at the titular high school. This is a good sign for the Mattel toy franchise (upon which the series is based), which recently relaunched its line of iconic toys, giving a revamped look to its beloved characters.

Season 1 introduced us to the teenage kids of some famous monsters as they begin a new school season at the eponymous school. At the center are the quartet of ghouls, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, and Deuce Gorgon, who in addition to their academics, are seen developing their social and personal lives by learning to discover who they are and embracing their unique identity, while surmounting every obstacle to stand out as fierce and fearless beasts.

According to a report, the second season will look to further develop each of these characters and explore their background while "expanding on the theme of friendship." While season one contained 26 episodes, the sophomore season will include 20 episodes.

The Wizarding World won't be around for at least until couple of years

After the failure of the Fantastic Beasts film series, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to move forward with a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Wizarding World has experienced its own ups and downs through the years, but its momentum slowed down after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ended Daniel Radcliffe's on-screen adventure as the titular wizard in 2011.

Although the Fantastic Beasts movies did return to Hogwarts and even feature Albus Dumbledore in a significant role, some fans pointed out that it didn't have the same magic that the Harry Potter films translated on-screen despite it managing to expand its world and history.

Disney silently cancels Pirates Of The Caribbean

Disney has pulled the plug on its Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff led by Margot Robbie.

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie said in a an interview.

“We are developing two Pirates scripts—one with her, one without,” sources told the paper at the time.

Even though her Pirates spinoff fell through, Robbie has plenty on her plate. She will be promoting her upcoming film Babylon from Whiplash, La La Land and First Man director Damian Chazelle. She’ll also soon start filming an Ocean’s Eleven prequel, and of course, coming next summer is the much talked about Barbie movie.

The End Of Paradise getting a season 2???

In an exclusive interview with People en Español, Carmen Villalobos and Gregorio Pernía have confirm that few chapters have been written for The End of Paradise Season 2.

This is coming after the writer of the story, Gustavo Bolivar came to comment weeks ago in a live broadcast on Instagram that 10 chapters had been written.

After the hasty and open ending of the successful Telemundo saga, The Way to Paradise with The End of Paradise, the followers of the story did not lose hope that there could be a new season to close the plots that were left unfinished.

But now, Gregorio Pernía who gave life to 'El Titi' in the aforementioned story confirms to People en Español "What if there were some scripts written? Yes, there were like 10 scripts written" However, Pernía sees it very difficult for those chapters to be produced since each of the actors who were part of the saga have embarked on new professional paths.

Digital First: Rebranding Of MTV Asia To MTV 90s

Also Read

Paramount is scheduled to roll out their streaming service Paramount+ in Africa alongside various other markets by 2023 and as seen with Disney+ their streaming service has led to a further cutback in channels with questions regarding Paramount's linear offering.

I know Paramount had stated a while back that they weren't planning to halt their linear offering as seen with The House Of Mouse. But that doesn't mean they won't do it eventually as they make some minor changes to the current offering.

In the UK, BET became a digital exclusive and Nicktoons is seen as music channel (NickMusic) in Latin America outside of that Paramount has been eliminating a lot of channels mainly MTV as they're said to carry outdated content or don't have a lot of viewers following them.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case in Asia as Sky announced the rebrand of MTV Asia which will now be MTV 90s a music channel from 1st September. This comes after Nickelodeon exited South Korea a few months ago and that just builds onto further speculation.

Is it possible that MTV and Nickelodeon's future in Asia will be the same fate awaiting consumers around the world. It's possible as evolution is a constant you had your VCR now there's DVD and not a lot of people SMS as there's social media.

Regarding MTV, I can see many reasons for Paramount to let go off the channel one cause compared to other general entertainment channels MTV holds more original content which a company like Disney would want to put onto a streaming service.

Compared to BET and Comedy Central as there's not much on there I mean you get plenty of original content but it doesn't dominate the schedule as seen with MTV. Not saying there's no chance of them going away but the less relevant a brand gets the more easier it will be to miss.
