Episode 49:
🔸️ Domenica finally tells Luis Fernando that she is pregnant with Max’s child, but instead of allowing her to explain, Luis Fernando immediately assumes that she was involved with Max out of love. Completely unaware that Domenica was a victim of sexual assault, he is consumed by jealousy, heartbreak and a sense of betrayal. Domenica desperately tries to explain the truth, but Luis Fernando storms away, leaving her distressed and weeping alone. Meanwhile, Dr. Jiménez informs the authorities that he has finished giving his statement. Elsewhere, the investigation into Max Langer’s murder begins to uncover more evidence. Gabriel speaks with Andres and the police about the firearm involved in the crime. The doctor had retrieved a pistol from young Osvaldo and handed it to Gabriel, but Gabriel clarifies that the gun actually belonged to Genaro but he had given the gun to Kiara to help him put it away. With this discovery, Kiara becomes a suspect in Max’s murder.
🔸️ The authorities also examine canisters of Nitroferal, the chemical defoliant used to destroy crops. At the same time, Genaro confronts PanfÃlo after his failed attempt to flee and capture Omar who had escaped. Genaro intends to use PanfÃlo as a scapegoat so that he can present himself as the hero in front of his boss and love interest. PanfÃlo desperately threatens to expose Genaro’s crimes if he is turned in, but Genaro attacks him by shooting him and prepares to sacrifice him for his own benefit. Back home, Domenica arrives in tears and confides in Gina about Luis Fernando’s reaction. She explains that he ran away after hearing about the pregnancy without giving her the chance to tell him that she had been raped. Gina urges her to clear things up with Luis Fernando before she loses him permanently, but Domenica admits that she is exhausted from constantly having to deal with his sickly jealousy. Their conversation is then interrupted by a call from Feunsanta, who informs them that Kiara is suspected of murdering Max.
🔸️ Meanwhile, Mercedes struggles with the painful truth surrounding Kiara but Luis Fernando confronts her with video evidence showing Kiara’s long-standing malice against Domenica and her collaboration with Max. The video reveals Kiara boasting about stealing the groom and proves that she and Max had plotted against Domenica for her fortune before the wedding. Mercedes is shattered as she begins to understand that Domenica was not the villain she believed her to be. Nonetheless, she remains stern but protective of her son. Genaro then arrives and gives another false version of events. He claims that he caught PanfÃlo sabotaging the coffee plantation and shot him dead in self-defense. Ernesto later calls Luis Fernando to report that PanfÃlo has died at La Abandonada. Genaro’s fabricated story is intended to conceal his own crimes and make PanfÃlo take the blame.
🔸️ The next morning, Mercedes also takes matters into her own hands when Kiara begs her for help. Kiara claims that Domenica threw her out of the community centre and cut off her credit cards. Realizing that Kiara is a murderer and manipulator, Mercedes pretends to offer her shelter and a warm bath. She leads Kiara into a bedroom and locks her inside from the outside. Mercedes then orders Rosita to bring her phone so she can contact the police and Luis Fernando. Kiara quickly changes from pretending to be vulnerable to frantic desperation, screaming from behind the locked door as Mercedes remains determined to make her answer for what she has done. Meanwhile, Pedro and Prudencio make a major discovery. Pedro finds purchase receipts among Genaro’s hidden paperwork showing that Genaro bought twelve canisters of Nitroferal. The number matches the exact canisters used to burn the crops at Luis's field. Even more importantly, the receipts show that Genaro purchased the chemicals from Omar, proving that Genaro was responsible for burning Luis Fernando’s crops and framing others for the crime. Pedro and Prudencio gather the documents and hurry to alert Domenica, Luis Fernando and the police, eager to finally expose Genaro.
🔸️ Later, Luis Fernando and Domenica face the reality of the unborn child. Domenica tells him that she intends to keep her baby and refuses to let Max’s heinous act destroy her lifelong dream of becoming a mother. This time, Luis Fernando listens, by now he had already found out that she was assaulted by Max. He declares his unconditional love for Domenica and promises to stand by her, marry her and raise the child as his own. He also agrees to keep the truth about the assault confidential. Luis Fernando embraces Domenica, offering her his full protection and commitment. After all the pain and misunderstanding between them, the two finally find relief, tenderness and reassurance in each other. Meanwhile, the fight against Genaro intensifies when Pedro calls Domenica and Luis Fernando with confirmation that the receipts prove Genaro has been stealing from La Abandonada for years and was responsible for burning the crops. Domenica then informs them that Genaro is heading back toward La Abandonada with Ernesto. Prudencio and Pedro immediately organize the workers and La Abandonada staff to intercept him when he arrives. At the same time, Gabriel reveals to Herminia that he is bankrupt because the bar, restaurant and warehouses he believed were his actually belong to Genaro. Herminia is left shocked and ashamed by the revelation.
🔸️ In the city, Simon finally catches up with Adelaida. He reveals that he spent all his money and even slept on a park bench just to travel to the city because he wanted to be near her. He has also secured a local job so he can stay close to her, overjoyed to see each other again, Simon and Adelaida embrace and share kisses. Adelaida agrees to accept him and promises to explain her family background to him as they make their way back to La Abandonada. At La Abandonada, Herminia had convinced Gabriel to come clean and tell Domenica the truth with all the business he had with Genaro and with the involvement of Feunsanta's influence. Back at Mercedes’ house, Luis Fernando and Mercedes discover that Kiara has escaped from the locked room. She managed to get out by jumping from the bedroom window onto a nearby tree branch. Mercedes then tearfully confesses to Luis Fernando about her past attempts to separate him from Domenica and asks for his forgiveness. Luis Fernando forgives his mother and firmly announces that he intends to marry Domenica.
🔸️ Meanwhile, Osvaldo retrieves Genaro’s hidden cash and handgun from his bedroom and warns him. Genaro realizes that he needs to disappear for the time being, but he vows to return and kidnap Domenica. He takes the money and gun before going into hiding. At the same time, the state police arrive while Ernesto and Blanca are together and arrest Feunsanta for the murder of Cosme Costa, her husband and property fraud. Feunsanta is shocked and loudly protests as the officers take her into custody. While everyone was away Kiara had sneak back in La Abandonada and forced her mother into giving her some money so she could dissappear for good, Luis Fernando meets up with her but was strike on the head which numbed him as Kiara made way for escape. Elsewhere, the hunt for Genaro closes in when Osvaldo turns against him and leads Pedro to the cornfield where Genaro is hiding.
🔸️ However, Genaro attempts to kill him and escape through the rural roads, desperate to avoid capture. Mercedes, who was driving along the road on her way to reach Domenica, she sees Pedro by the road, and stops to talk to him then she spots Genaro and tries to stop him. In a desperate attempt to escape, Genaro shoots at Pedro but Mercedes takes the bullet for Pedro in an attempt to save, leaving her mortally wounded on the side of the road. The situation descends into chaos and horror as Genaro breaks down when he had wanted to shoot Pedro again but Prudencio cuts his arm with a machete, while Mercedes dies from her injuries. As the same, nearby, Kiara attempts to slip past the authorities through the woods.
Episode 50
🔸️ At La Abandonada, Kiara’s desperate attempt to escape continues after she attacks Andrés and forces Pilar to give her money. Just as she prepares to flee, Luis Fernando arrives and demands to know where she thinks she is going after everything she has done. Kiara pulls out the gun she took from Andrés and threatens to shoot Luis Fernando if he tries to stop her, even though she claims to love him. Luis Fernando tells her not to make her situation worse and makes it clear that even without Domenica standing between them, he would never have loved her. Furious, Kiara orders him to turn around and kneel before her as she bitterly asks why Domenica always wins and why everyone loves Domenica instead of her. Luis Fernando urges her to surrender and stop obsessing over Domenica, but Kiara insists that she is worth more than Domenica and that both Domenica and Luis Fernando will pay for deceiving her. She then reveals the horrifying truth about the accident that killed Luis Fernando’s unborn son. Silvia may have had the ring, but Kiara was actually the one driving the vehicle. Enraged by the confession, Luis Fernando knocks the gun away, but as they struggle for it, Kiara strikes him hard on the head with the weapon. Nicolasa rushes out after hearing the commotion, but Kiara manages to escape once again.
🔸️ Meanwhile, Mercedes lies bleeding heavily in the sugarcane field after taking the bullet Genaro intended for Pedro. As Pedro holds her, Mercedes asks him to forgive her. Pedro also asks for her forgiveness, devastated that the bullet was meant for him, but Mercedes explains that she saw what was about to happen and had to protect him. She tells Pedro that he is a wonderful person and that she loves him as though he were her own son. Mercedes begins complaining that she is cold while Prudencio desperately tries to call for help, but there is no network. Domenica also searches for a signal and eventually receives a call from Luis Fernando, who tells her that Kiara has escaped and asks her to contact the police. Domenica shocks him with the news that Genaro has shot Mercedes and that they are in the sugarcane field. Luis Fernando tells them not to move his mother and immediately heads there. Mercedes uses what may be her final moments to ask Domenica for forgiveness for everything she did to her and Luis Fernando, admitting that Kiara filled her head with terrible lies about Domenica. She tells Domenica that she knows she will be a wonderful mother to her grandchild and begs her to make Luis Fernando happy. Domenica assures her that they will all be happy and begs her to hold on until her son arrives.
🔸️ Back at La Abandonada, Andrés regains consciousness after Kiara’s attack. Pilar explains that Kiara threatened to kill him, forcing her to hand over her valuables, and also took the gun Andrés had hidden. Andrés reassures her that the gun is defective because its barrel is blocked. Nicolasa arrives with first aid and reveals that Kiara escaped after striking Luis Fernando on the head. She also explains that Luis Fernando has gone to the sugarcane field after learning that Genaro shot Mercedes. Elsewhere, Gina and San GenÃs arrive at Omar Valdez’s office in San Felipe determined to find him before the mandate is signed. When nobody answers the door, Gina spots Omar attempting to escape with his luggage from his house, San GenÃs runs after him, while Gina trips Omar as he tries to flee, sending him crashing to the ground. With Omar lying there watching them, Gina and San GenÃs begin flirting before San GenÃs kisses her. Meanwhile, Dominica had already asked Pedro to look after Mercedes as Luis Fernando is on his way while she herself, goes after Kiara.
🔸️ Somewhere at the fields, Rosita is peacefully watering her plants and talking to them about her parents when she hears something behind her. She turns and is terrified to find Kiara pointing a gun at her. Kiara eventually runs away without hurting her, while a frightened Rosita races towards home screaming for her mother. Back in the sugarcane field, Mercedes asks Prudencio for forgiveness, and both Prudencio and Pedro assure her that they have forgiven her. Luis Fernando finally arrives and rushes to his mother. When Pedro removes his hand from Mercedes’ wound, Luis Fernando sees how much blood she has lost and breaks down. Mercedes tells him that Domenica has forgiven her and asks him to make Domenica happy. Luis Fernando tells his mother that he has forgiven her too, while Mercedes wishes him happiness with Domenica and her grandchild. Mercedes then takes her final breath. A devastated Luis Fernando gently closes his mother’s eyes as Pedro blames himself because Mercedes took the bullet meant for him. Luis Fernando embraces his brother and tells him that it was not his fault; Mercedes protected Pedro because she truly loved him. Prudencio holds the two brothers as all three men weep together over Mercedes’ death while Genaro continues to perish in pain and loss of blood.
🔸️ Meanwhile, Domenica encounters a terrified Rosita on the road. Rosita explains that Kiara pointed a gun at her before running towards Red Rock, the mountain. Domenica tells Rosita to return to back home and inform her parents that she saw Kiara and that Domenica has gone after her. She kisses Rosita on the forehead and drives away as Rosita desperately shouts after her to be careful because Kiara has a gun. Back at La Abandonada, Pilar admits to Ernesto, Blanca, Andrés and Nicolasa that her daughter has behaved like a criminal, attacking Andrés and stealing from them. Blanca tells Ernesto to contact the commander directly and report that Kiara has escaped and is armed, although Andrés assures them that the gun Kiara took does not work. A distraught Pilar begs Ernesto to ask the authorities not to hurt Kiara. Whatever crimes she has committed, Kiara is still her daughter. Ernesto embraces Pilar and tries to comfort her.
🔸️ At the sugarcane field, Luis Fernando entrusts Mercedes’ body to Pedro while he goes in search of Domenica. They also refuse to allow the injured Genaro to die because, after everything he has done, he must survive to answer for his crimes. Prudencio takes Genaro towards the car so he can be taken to the hospital, while Mercedes’ body will be taken to the morgue. Luis Fernando mounts a horse and speeds away in search of Domenica. Meanwhile, at Gabriel’s home, Osvaldo admits that he was hiding in the bushes and witnessed Mercedes taking the bullet intended for Pedro. He claims he ran because remaining there would have made him look guilty and insists that Genaro forced him to cooperate. Gabriel refuses to accept his excuses, knowing that Osvaldo willingly served his godfather. Herminia tells her son that if he had the courage to help send Pedro to his death, he must now have the courage to face the consequences of his actions. Osvaldo begs Gabriel to lend him his car so he can escape and promises to change, but Herminia refuses to become his accomplice. Gabriel finally says he will help his son, but not by helping him run away. He will take Osvaldo to the police, and Gabriel himself will also turn himself in as Genaro’s accomplice for the terrible things he did and the crimes he knew about but kept silent. Osvaldo eventually calms down as Herminia and his younger sister MarÃa join them in a family embrace.
🔸️ Luis Fernando later meets some of the ranch hands, who tell him that Prudencio has warned everyone that the police are coming, but Kiara remains missing. Bartolo then arrives with Rosita’s information: Kiara fled towards Red Rock and Domenica has already gone after her. Luis Fernando orders everyone to remain alert in case Kiara changes direction before racing towards the mountain. Domenica has already reached the mountain and spots Kiara running beyond a warning sign towards the dangerous edge of the mountain. Kiara eventually reaches a dead end at the cliff. Domenica tells her that there is nowhere left to run, everyone now knows who she really is, and Domenica intends to personally hand her over to the police. Kiara points the gun at her and says that will never happen if she kills Domenica first. She threatens to put two bullets into Domenica just as she shot the traitor Max and threw him into the lagoon. Domenica begs Kiara to do the right thing for once in her life.
🔸️ Luis Fernando arrives as Domenica desperately tells Kiara that she is pregnant. The revelation sends Kiara into a rage. She accuses Domenica of betraying her because Domenica once claimed she no longer wanted Luis Fernando and had promised to leave him alone if Kiara fell in love with him, yet Domenica returned to him and became pregnant. Domenica instinctively protects her stomach as Luis Fernando screams her name. Kiara pulls the trigger, but the defective gun malfunctions, filling the area with smoke. Frightened, Kiara drops it and Domenica charges towards her. The women struggle and fall before Kiara tumbles over the edge of the cliff. Domenica catches her hand and desperately begs her to hold on, promising that she can pull her back to safety. Kiara refuses, saying that she cannot do it, that she is not going to prison and that this time she will win while Domenica loses. Kiara deliberately releases Domenica’s hand and plunges into the ravine. Luis Fernando pulls a distraught Domenica away from the edge as she cries over why Kiara had to do this. Their relief is short-lived when they discover that Domenica is bleeding. Terrified, Domenica repeatedly cries for her baby while Luis Fernando holds her and weeps with her. Kiara, meanwhile, survives the devastating fall but is left with severe injuries.
🔸️ At San Felipe Hospital, Domenica eventually wakes with Luis Fernando beside her and immediately asks about her baby. With tears in his eyes, Luis Fernando tells her that she lost the pregnancy. Heartbroken, Domenica begs him not to leave her again because she needs him. Luis Fernando promises that he loves her, will take care of her and will never again abandon her or distance himself from her. Domenica tells him that she loves him too, and they promise to overcome everything together. Later, Mercedes is laid to rest at Luis Fernando’s estate. Pedro admits to Nieves that he has no appetite and struggles with the fact that he did not forgive Mercedes sooner, especially after she paid a price for him that he never imagined by giving her life for his. Nieves comforts him, reminding him that forgiveness sometimes comes late but what matters is that Mercedes died in peace knowing she had been forgiven. Prudencio also thanks Pedro for freeing him from the mistakes of the past, while Simon and Pedro finally put their rivalry behind them, shake hands and embrace as friends again. Adelaida and Nieves follow their example, apologize to each other and end their own rivalry.
🔸️ Nicolasa also bids Mercedes farewell, reflecting sadly that Mercedes failed to appreciate love while she had it. Nicolasa acknowledges how happy Prudencio has made her and promises to love him properly now that fate has returned his love to her. Domenica and Luis Fernando then arrive hand in hand, and everyone offers Luis Fernando their condolences. He approaches Mercedes’ coffin, embraces and kisses it as he says his final goodbye. Luis Fernando thanks everyone for standing beside him and acknowledges that although his mother made many mistakes, she loved them. He reminds Pedro that Mercedes loved him like her own son and proved it with the ultimate act of love by saving his life. Luis Fernando takes comfort in still having his brother beside him and knowing that Mercedes left this world reconciled with life and with the people she had hurt.
🔸️ At the municipal police station, the consequences of Genaro’s crimes continue to spread through everyone involved with him. Fuensanta regrets killing her Cosme, while Gabriel reflects on everything he has lost, including his marriage of almost twenty years to Herminia, while Osvaldo now faces prison and Gabriel himself will barely be able to see his younger children once he is incarcerated. Osvaldo is taken away by the police as Herminia tells him that although he may believe she does not love him for allowing this to happen, facing justice is what is best for him. His younger brother and MarÃa rush to embrace him, and Osvaldo promises that he will redeem himself and hopes that one day his family will forgive him for all the harm he caused. San GenÃs assures Herminia that he will do everything possible to ensure that Gabriel and Osvaldo receive a fair trial.
🔸️ Meanwhile, Domenica visits the badly injured Kiara at a hospital in Mexico City. Kiara remains completely unremorseful and blames Domenica for leaving her with her legs badly damaged. She admits that she summoned Domenica because she wanted the satisfaction of telling her to her face that she had won by causing Domenica and Luis Fernando to lose their child. Domenica destroys that illusion with one revelation: the baby she lost was not Luis Fernando’s child but Max’s. Kiara refuses to believe her and screams that Domenica is only saying it to make her feel as though she lost. Domenica tells Kiara that there was never a war between them because Kiara had been fighting that war alone with her own ego. Out of love for her aunt Pilar, Domenica promises to continue offering Kiara the things she has always hated receiving from her: her money and her condolences. As Domenica walks away, Kiara screams that she does not need her pity and still has enough breath to curse her, repeatedly calling Domenica’s name as she breaks down in tears.
🔸️ At San Felipe, Genaro faces his own devastating consequences. The injuries to his hand were so severe that it had to be amputated. Lying in his hospital bed with only one hand, he asks his niece Nieves, whether Domenica has sent him a message or intends to visit. Nieves tells him that Domenica has no message for him and is not coming. Genaro laments how foolish he was to lose a woman like Domenica, but Nieves reminds him that Domenica never belonged to him; he created that fantasy himself. Nieves explains that she came only to say goodbye and forgive him because he is her uncle, but she has no intention of continuing to visit him. When Genaro reminds her that he gave her work and took care of her, Nieves reminds him that he also mistreated her and beat her with belt. Desperate and still obsessed with Domenica, Genaro begs Nieves to bring him a photograph of her, some of her perfume or even a lock of her hair. Nieves tells him that whether he takes care of himself or not no longer concerns her and leaves him to break down alone.
🔸️ Pilar later visits Kiara in the hospital and assures her that no matter what happens, she is still her mother and will continue showing up for her even if Kiara tells her to go to hell. Kiara responds by asking Pilar to kill her if she truly loves her. She cannot accept being unable to walk and facing the possibility of prison, and she begs her mother not to force her to continue living that way. A horrified Pilar repeatedly refuses. Kiara would later take her own life.
SIX YEARS LATER......,
🔸️ Life in Santa Teresa has changed beautifully. Domenica and Luis Fernando have a daughter, Fernanda, affectionately called Fernandita, while La Abandonada and Espejo de Luna have been united into one thriving property known as Hacienda del Encanto. Their coffee business flourishes through its long-standing relationship with Nescafé, while a coffee growers’ school led by Prudencio prepares younger generations to continue the community’s coffee-growing tradition. Fernandita is already eager to learn about the work around her. Domenica and Luis Fernando have also built the clinic they dreamed of for the workers of Hacienda del Encanto and people with limited resources, with its grand opening scheduled for the following week.
🔸️ A huge celebration is held at Hacienda del Encanto to celebrate another successful coffee harvest and the progress of the community. Six years have passed, and as Domenica proudly observes, Santa Teresa has grown almost as much as their families. Pedro and Nieves are now married with a daughter, while Pedro has surprisingly gone from veterinary medicine into politics, joking that his government programme remains firmly in favour of the countryside. MarÃa arrives after coming off duty and announces that her medical studies are going exceptionally well and that she will complete her final internship at Luis Fernando’s new clinic. Luis Fernando proudly calls her his colleague and encourages her to begin thinking about a specialty, suggesting traumatology. Herminia happily welcomes her daughter, while Adelaida, Simon and Nicolasa join the reunion. Herminia also reveals that her restaurant is doing well, while the children Domenica sends from the orphanage continue enjoying their annual summer camp.
🔸️ The celebration becomes even more emotional when Osvaldo unexpectedly appears. He has been released from prison that very day for good behaviour, also helped by Pedro and Luis Fernando’s forgiveness and San GenÃs’s work. Herminia immediately embraces her son. Gabriel admits that he would have given anything for them all to experience such a moment together as a family, but Herminia assures him that they are still family even though their marriage ended. Gabriel agrees, noting that today they are best friends. Osvaldo’s younger brother then introduces a grown Rosita as his girlfriend, leaving Osvaldo amused to realize that she is Bartolo’s daughter. Bartolo and his wife are equally surprised by the young romance, although Bartolo jokingly lays down his rule that there will be no such relationship until they are 15. Gabriel begins playing his guitar, Bartolo takes Rosita onto the dance floor, and soon everyone joins the music, laughter and dancing as old wounds finally give way to happiness.
🔸️ As their family and friends celebrate below, Domenica and Luis Fernando step away together and look over the joyful scene from above. Surrounded by the life they have built, Domenica remembers herself as a little girl at La Abandonada with her mother and realizes that her mother’s words have finally come true: she found the best man in the world and God blessed her with the most beautiful family. Luis Fernando tells Domenica that she deserves her happiness because she is a good person and confesses how deeply loved she makes him feel. Domenica tells him that she feels equally loved and remembers how she once arrived at La Abandonada completely heartbroken, swearing that she would never love again. Instead, La Abandonada became the place that healed her and the place where she found the love of her life. Luis Fernando looks at her and says, “I love you, Domenica Montero.” Domenica tells him that she loves him too. As the theme song begins to play, Domenica and Luis Fernando share a kiss, bringing their long and painful journey to a beautiful end.
