Rumour: The Walt Disney Company To Extend The Reach Of Star Channel

A few years ago, FOX was ripped away from DStv and StarSat consumers across Africa prior to that some regions such as Latin America were fortunate to get a placeholder Star Channel which continued to offer the bulk of content coming to former channel.

Just like FOX in Africa, that too wasn't made to last as Latin America joined the UK, Germany, Australia and several other regions that consolidated their content on the streaming service Disney+ with Europe expected to take the plunge by 2024.

If you're reading this then you must be aware that there's still a number of FOX feeds globally where viewers can tune into shows like The Resident, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother, M.O.D.O.K., CSI: Miami, Fresh Off The Boat and The X-Files.

While some of these regions don't have Disney Channel and Disney Junior, there is very much a FOX feed and The House Of Mouse as usual chooses to divide their audience most of which has to do with Disney+.

According to some sources, the remaining feeds of FOX kind of like Latin America are set to rebrand to Star by early 2023 which to me doesn't make any sense as seen in the first region to launch a linear channel based on the Disney+ tile which went to just become only a tile.

If this turns out to be true, I'm more curious on how long this would last I mean it doesn't make sense to pour this much attention on a brand you know will fade away in a year or two.

Take Latin America and a few other regions where these channels were deemed relevant. Disney XD stopped supplying original content while Latin America tried to make it independent, various FOX feeds closed while they got Star Channel all of that effort gone down the drain.

The Simpsons: A Look At Proposed Spinoffs That Never Got Time Of Day

When The Simpsons debuted 35 years ago as a series of shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, it was hard to expect that it would become one of the most successful and longest-running franchises in movie and TV history. While The Simpsons spun off from (and quickly eclipsed) The Tracey Ullman Show, it seems a little odd that, given the show’s rampant popularity, we have yet to see a spin-off from The Simpsons, itself. The show has occasionally mocked the concept of TV spin-offs – most notably in the Troy McClure-hosted “Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase” – but that doesn’t mean Fox and the Simpsons creative team haven’t attempted to use the show as a springboard to launch another series. Let’s take a look now at some proposed spin-offs of The Simpsons, all of which sound infinitely better than The Cleveland Show.

A Krusty the Clown Series (1994)

One of the first side characters the Simpsons writers fleshed out was Krusty the Clown, so it makes perfect sense that he was the first one Matt Groening tried to develop a series around. With The Simpsons at its creative zenith as well as the peak of its cultural relevance in the 90s, it would have been the perfect time to launch a second series, but the plans for the Krusty show sound a little out there. Groening wanted it to be a live-action series starring Dan Castellaneta, who voices Krusty, Homer, and a solid 1/3 of Springfield’s male residents, as Krusty the Clown. Matt Groening, with King of Queens creator Michael Weithorn, wrote a pilot script about Krusty moving to L.A. to host a talk show. Several visual jokes that seemed a better fit for animation caused trouble with the network. Here’s Groening describing the difficulties:

“We had this running joke in the script that Krusty was living in a house on stilts and there were beavers gnawing their way through the stilts. But somebody at the network pointed out how expensive it was to hire trained beavers – and an equally prohibitive cost would be to get mechanical beavers – so I said, ‘If we animated this, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.’”

Matt Groening and Fox then began to work on an animated Krusty spin-off, but contract negotiations stalled, and Groening moved on to developing Futurama, a series that does not require the use of beavers – mechanical or trained.

Tales from Springfield (1996)

The greatest strength of The Simpsons has always been its deep bench of supporting characters. While many of these tertiary Springfieldians seem like broad cartoonish characters on the outside, they’re often revealed to be rich, three-dimensional figures underneath who are capable of carrying their own episodes of the show. After the success of the 1996 episode “22 Short Films About Springfield,” an episode composed of nearly two dozen vignettes centering on the show’s recurring characters, the writers began batting around the idea of developing a new series following these lesser-known Springfieldians. Tales from Springfield would have told three different short stories each week, focusing on secondary characters and occasionally telling stories about the Simpsons family members’ past and future.

Matt Groening concluded that the show didn’t have enough writers to script two simultaneous series, so the idea was shelved. The Simpsons has enough wonderful recurring characters to fill several additional series, and this seems like it would have been a logical and worthwhile spin-off at the time, but it wasn’t meant to be.

A live-action Troy McClure movie (mid-90s)

Prior to his tragic death, Phil Hartman, who voiced recurring Simpsons characters Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz, amongst others, expressed an interest in starring in a live-action film based on McClure. While Matt Groening has said that this was only an idea and no script was ever written, several of the writers were fond of Hartman’s idea. While the Krusty spin-off seems a little harder to pull off, Phil Hartman has proven he’s adept at playing smug, superficial guys like McClure in live-action roles, and it’s a shame we never got to see him play Troy McClure in non-animated form.

Roundups #115: Tom And Jerry In New York Cancelled On Boomerang And HBO Max, Lord Of The Skies Returns For An Eighth Season On Telemundo USA And The Addams Family Spinoff Wednesday Is A Global Success On Netflix

Tom And Jerry likely cancelled on HBO Max

Based on the 2021 theatrical film, Tom and Jerry In New York settle in to their new digs at the Royal Gate Hotel and unleash mayhem across the Big Apple, inciting chaos uptown, downtown and everywhere their manic escapades take them.

The series premiered in the same year on HBO Max and was made available to Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels internationally with a total of 13 episodes each with a duration of 21 minutes over 2 seasons.

Since November 2021, no more episodes had been ordered and with the reconstruction of Warner Bros. Discovery it wouldn't be shocking if it were cancelled considering how the theatrical film performed.

Regardless, the crew are working on the preschool series Tom And Jerry Time for Cartoonito.

Aurelio returns for another season on Telemundo

It's official! Telemundo revealed the premiere date for season 8 of 'El señor de los cielos'. Through its social networks, the television house shared a video where Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya) is seen being tortured in jail.

"They took me out of the grave, they made everyone believe that I was dead. Locked up, tortured, like an animal, but there is no caged animal that does not want to escape and that does not want to return to its herd. The family is not touched, much less if they are Casillas", the protagonist is heard saying.

Season 8 of 'El señor de los cielos' premieres on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 on Telemundo.

For the continuation of the story, one of the actors who confirmed his return was Isabella Castillo, who shines with Isidro (Garbiel Bonilla), who returns with his role as the son of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya). Another beloved character is Tata (Wendy de los Cobos), who published an image with her fictional son, Ismael Casillas.

Wednesday becomes a global sensation

Wednesday, the comedy-horror series from Tim Burton about the titular daughter of the Addams Family starring Jenna Ortega, made its highly anticipated debut on Netflix last week on November 23. In that time, the series has been well received by critics and has now even broken a Netflix viewing record! The show is now at the top of the list for the most viewed hours of a Netflix debut for an English-Language TV series at a staggering 341.2 million hours viewed in its first week.

The eight-episode series came in at #1 on the global Netflix Top 10 for the week of November 21 - November 27, with it reaching the top spot in 83 countries, a feat that has only been achieved by Season 4 of Stranger Things. The series was also featured in the Top 10 of all 93 countries tracked. Burton serves as both director and executive producer on the series with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar acting as executive producers, writers, and showrunners. Fellow executive producers include Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty.

How To Share A Corrupted Or Copyrighted File On MediaFire And Likely Other Facilities Like Google Drive?

MediaFire kind of like Google Drive and Dropbox is a storage facility where you can backup your files and as seen through Insidus Games is the hub where we store most of our files as the space is very wide like 10GB of space of which less than 2GB makes Insidus Games.

For those using this app must have noticed that certain files come up with a corrupted or copyright message and I found it odd really as I sourced most of my junk from a few trusted sources but yet again you find nothing wrong in distributing something like Lolo but something as awful as Somari.

If you're reading this I'm assuming you're trying to fix the problem here and l was a victim of such consulted various sites but still no luck so here's how I manage to resolve it:

- Firstly, if you need an app that can compress or zip your files this way it can bypass Google Drive or MediaFire.
- Second select the folder and if you use ES File Explorer there's an option to compress and even comes with levels in case you want to make it high tech.
- Third take that compressed file and upload it to your storage unit and check to see if the file can be shared like some on Insidus Games.
- If a problem persists, I recommend strengthening the file as mentioned in the second option ES does come with levels for their zip folders.

Review: The Concept Of Boomerang And Cartoonito

Boomerang is family skewed brand owned by Warner Bros. Discovery is home to franchises such as Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes and Tom And Jerry and has experienced success with the likes like Mr. Bean, Ninja Express, Lamput and Zig & Sharko.

Outside of that lied a brand which craved attention and needed to better their offering to match that of the main network, Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, it only served as a runner up in its eyes as it fills it's lineup with gags and family infused movies.

Overseas, it is treated as a pushover while as other regions it is able to stand up its two feet. If you dive deeper onto, isn't it more like Comedy Central nowadays as both can keep viewers a certain capacity and lack the Netflix experience.

Netflix dwells on originality and there's plenty of quality and originals to go around while Boomerang just seems to make up the other portion of their hub and there enters Cartoonito.

Cartoonito seeks to reinvent Boomerang's dismal selection. Instead of relying on Movie Stars to build primetime, they want to use Thomas And Friends, Lucas The Spider, Moley and Dino Ranch to keep audiences occupied kind of similar to the main brand's approach in series.

It's led Boomerang to become a crossover between the two with most of its energy on preschool with shows like Mighty Mike, Masha And The Bear, Grizzly And The Lemmings and Legend Of Spark - another approach in reinventing or establishing a brand.

Which brings me to my final calling, Cartoonito seeing as it is taking away or reestablishing what was once a TCM of our generation. How much of the old Boomerang would reside in this new brand? How is anyone sure it won't wide up like Disney Junior?

Before Cartoonito, Disney Junior was a family based channel sure there was preschool but the previous incarnate had 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Emperor's New Groove and the original DuckTales now it's been reduced to Marvel's Spidey and Puppy Dog Pals.

Point being made, Boomerang was the only brand that could actually cater to preschool and family and Cartoonito is expanding further into the preschool portion only God knows how much of that will give anyone the future former brand.

Roundups #114: Spider-Man Spin-Off Silk: Spider-Society Greenlit By MGM+ And Amazon Prime Video, Ultra Violet And Black Scorpion Cancelled On Disney Channel After One Season And Looney Tunes Cartoons Cancelled On Cartoon Network And HBO Max

The Spiderverse continues its expansion

Superheros are taking the television world by storm, and Amazon Prime Video is taking this opportunity to get in on all the action. The first confirmed Spider-Man spinoff will be Silk: Spider Society, but it won't be the only one according to Sony.

For those who remember, Sony and Disney didn't see eye to eye when it came to the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. After the second installment, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony and Disney had a hard time coming to a financial deal, leaving many to wonder if the third film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was going to happen. However, the two companies came to terms with the fact that Sony will hold the screen rights to all of the Spider-Man films and characters, which is now allowing Sony to jump in on creating spin-offs of its own.

Amazon Studios and Sony will introduce audiences to Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk. While no one is sure how many shows fans are getting, one is Silk: Spider Society, which will be the first to kick off the new Spider-Man universe when it debuts on MGM Plus domestically before launching globally on Prime Video. There is no word on how exactly the series will portray Moon's backstory, but there should be some excitement around The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang, who will also be heading Silk: Spider Society. Kang will also serve as executive producer alongside Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with whom she developed the series.

Ultra Violet And Black Scorpion Cancelled

Unfortunately, it’s not all confetti and cake. Villains of Valley View may live to fight another day, but its superhero block mate, Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion is heading to early retirement. Disney Channel decided to end the series after only 1 season. It’s a disappointing ending for yet another Latina superhero this year. First Leslie Grace’s Batgirl, now Scarlett Estevez’s Violet? This year has actually been marked by a concerning amount of Hispanic-led series cancelled too soon.

First announced way back in January 2020, it was intended to star professional wrestler Blue Demon Jr. and have a heavier luchadore / profesional wrestling influence. The pandemic and other behind the scenes issues resulted in a long road to get the show off the ground. The first major issue is that the pandemic left the series from receiving full greenlight until January 2021, one year later. At that time, Scarlett Estevez joined the series as Ultra Violet.

For reasons unknown, Blue Demon Jr. departed the series along with the original producer and it was retooled as Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion. In August 2021, J.R. Villarreal tagged in as Black Scorpion to replace Blue Demon and the series finally filmed. Disney could have aired a special sneak peek of the pilot during Hispanic Heritage month in 2021, but did not. When it finally premiered this past June, it seemed that they’d been holding it back for a few months already. Then, it felt like they were burning it off when they dropped the entire summer’s set of 10 episodes on Disney+ right away. The television ratings certainly suffered from this decision.

Looney Tunes Cartoons is officially on its way out, this is the version of the series that premiered on HBO Max

Developed by Pete Brown (Creator of Uncle Grandpa), he wanted Looney Tunes Cartoons to go back to the basics. These didn't go out of the way to reinvent Bugs Bunny and everyone else. Instead, it was more of an update to the 1940s Looney Tunes era which isn't a bad thing.

These characters are timeless, thrown in any time period and setting and maybe change a few things here and there it's still fun to watch.

While the reception of this show is positive, Pete revealed something on Instagram:

Today was a final mix of the 209 Looney Tunes Cartoons shorts we created. Congratulations to all involved. That's all folks.

The end of this version doesn't mean the end of the franchise as Looney Tunes has got a ton of upcoming projects such as Bugs Bunny Builders, Tiny Toons Looniversity, Tweety Mysteries and The Day The Earth Blew Up.

Hasbro To Sell eOne TV, But Keep Family Brands

In a development that many saw coming, Hasbro has announced today that it’s initiating a sale process for eOne’s library and adult-skewing scripted and unscripted content businesses.

“As we execute Blueprint 2.0 [link] with a focus on strategic investment in key franchise brands like D&D, Peppa Pig and Transformers, we plan to expand our entertainment offerings across scripted TV, digital shorts and blockbuster films,” said CEO Chris Cocks in a statement.

Olivier Dumont, president of kids and family brands at eOne, has confirmed to Kidscreen that his division will not be affected by the sale. The eOne Family Brands portfolio includes high-performing IPs such as PJ Masks, Power Rangers and preschool series Ricky Zoom. PJ Masks, in particular, has a robust Hasbro-branded consumer products program spanning toys, playsets and costumes, as well as a broad range of licensed products from category-leading partners.

Assets that are for sale include eOne’s library content, unscripted series and non-Hasbro scripted series and films, as well as Hasbro’s stake in eOne’s film and TV distribution business.

The announcement builds on Hasbro’s most recent investment call, in which the company introduced a strategy to lean on its legacy IPs for brand-building, while using eOne’s studio capabilities to develop new ones like Kiya. In February, Hasbro hired Ruedilyn Cox as VP of global franchise strategy and management for this fledging TV-driven IP that centers around a young superhero and her best friends.

“The company plans to maintain significant development, production and financing capabilities to support its core brands across film, TV, animation and digital shorts,” according to Hasbro’s investor statement, which notes that its entertainment team will continue to operate under the eOne production banner until—and if—a sale is completed.

Power Rangers Actor Jason David Frank Has Died

Jason David Frank was a key attraction to the Power Rangers franchise, debuting on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series when it premiered in 1993. Frank was one of the most–if not the most–consistent presence throughout the franchise, appearing in 10 series and four movies. Although he primarily portrayed the Green Ranger, he would also later play the White, Black and Red Rangers through various iterations in the Power Rangers franchise, which has run almost consistently since the ‘90s, with one as recently as this September.

Power Rangers of course continues to have a major fanbase, which never really gave itself a chance to die down much since 1993. Going back to that time, basically everyone of that age had a favorite Power Ranger and took on that role during recess. And let’s face it, many of us argued over who got to be the Green Ranger.

In addition to his acting career, Jason David Frank was an accomplished martial artist. Frank was an 8th degree black belt and was even inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame. He also had a short MMA career in 2010, with an amateur record of 3-0 and a professional record of 1-0, winning by submission.

Many have begun to send their thoughts on the news of Jason David Frank’s unfortunate death. Friend and trainer Mike Bronzoulis wrote on social media, “Jason was a good friend to me and I will miss him. Love n prayers for his wife Tammy and their kids, I pray that God gets yall through this difficult time.”

Review: Charlize Theron's Opinion Over The Afrikaans Language

During the week, Hollywood star Charlize Theron made some bizarre comments about the Afrikaans language through a podcast. Taking to account that she was too raised in South Africa and moved overseas to have a better life.

The 47 year old actress stated that the language she grew up speaking was fading away and that only 44 people are still speaking the language. Implying that she isn't aware of the bulk of content coming to kykNET or the amount of people releasing books or poems in her native tongue.

Since the news of her offensive comments toward the Afrikaans language spread. She has recieved a ton of backlash while others choose to support her statement. From my perspective, I wouldn't say she's entirely wrong but her choice of words is what sets everyone back.

Afrikaans is the 3rd most spoken language in South Africa and sure schools may have seen a shortage in staff for this particular audience but that doesn't mean it's dying if anything it's reached a new stage in evolution.

Kind of like how you had SMS then Facebook and Twitter popped up both still can be messaging platforms the same case is currently happening with the Afrikaans language.

Sure there's a certain group of people who give the language a side eye not gonna point to race or anything but that's only cause they haven't found a way to enjoy it.

Honestly, I don't even watch Africa Magic the only way I can enjoy it is through tabloids to some extent and the same goes to sports where e-sports is another priority for me and everything else from soccer to wrestling I view through highlights and doccies.

Afrikaans has reached a new stage of evolution and it's popularity excelled following eMedia's and kykNET's investment toward Istanbul and platforms like Jou Afrikaans which is giving viewers another alternative to kykNET.

From Elvis Presley To Hugh Hefner: We Look At A List Of Biopics That Never Made The Time Of Day

Movies get planned and scrapped all the time. Most just happen outside anyone's view. There are a million reasons why some fictional story starring an A-list actor never gets off the ground, and as a result, nobody pays any mind to it. But the same can't be said of biopics. When the subject matter is famous, everything about that movie becomes trade paper fodder. Every update, casting choice, or plain old rumor shows up in Deadline or The Hollywood Reporter, and it emphasizes how long even a supposedly time-sensitive project like a biopic takes to get made.

As implied, biopics also get scrapped all the time. Sometimes they're axed in loud and public ways. Other times, they manage to sneak by and quietly get canceled, and they're only revealed when talent connected to the project is asked years later. Either way, if you've ever wondered why some famous figure hasn't had their story told, here's why these biopics never made it to the screen.

An Elvis miniseries was canceled

There's been no shortage of Elvis Presley biopics, dating back to 1979's made-for-TV movie starring Kurt Russell. There was the dramatic Elvis and the Beauty Queen starring Don Johnson in 1981, the 2016 dramedy Elvis & Nixon about the famous meeting between the King and the president, and the not literally true but emotionally true 2002 horror film Bubba Ho-Tep with Bruce Campbell. There's also Baz Luhrmann's 2022 Elvis movie starring Austin Butler and featuring Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker.

Apple intended to add their own addition to the pantheon of Elvis biopics, with a miniseries streaming on Apple Music. There are few details on the project, except that Apple hoped it might become an anthology where they'd cover stars like Prince and Michael Jackson in future installments. Of course, there's a reason we're describing it in the past tense — it was canceled early in its development. Why? It was produced by the Weinstein Company. Deadline reports that the project was set up in the summer of 2017, and Apple dropped it almost immediately after The New York Times published the expose on Harvey Weinstein.

Chris Farley didn't get to make his Fatty Arbuckle biopic

Chris Farley is remembered by the public at large as a big, goofy, boisterous clown. It's an image that could hardly be further than the real him — a gentle and depressed man, ashamed of his girth and upset at being pigeon-holed. He spent his later years looking for a project that would show his dramatic talent, and he found that in the story of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle.

One of the first Hollywood stars, Arbuckle was a comedic talent unlike anyone else of his era. He was a big man but strikingly athletic for his size, a skill that gained him a huge following and the respect of his peers. However, today he's best remembered for being accused of the rape and murder of silent film star Virginia Rappe. (He was exonerated after three trials but lost his career.)

Farley knew he was perfect for the role, and it would change how he was perceived. Unfortunately, his obsession with the movie overlapped with the worst of his addictions. He was never able to get the film together and died of a drug overdose in 1997 before he could see any part of it through. The project was seemingly revived in 2011, when Eric Stonestreet signed up to play Arbuckle in an HBO movie directed by Barry Levinson. There hasn't been a mite of news on the project since.

Fox dropped a movie about Patty Hearst

James Mangold became one of Hollywood's most in-demand directors after the smash success of Logan. In December 2017, Variety broke the news of his newest project – a drama about Patty Hearst's kidnapping and involvement with the Symbionese Liberation Army. It was based on Jeffrey Toobin's book American Heiress, and Elle Fanning was in negotiations to play the title role. The movie was set to be produced by 20th Century Fox, continuing their partnership with Mangold post-Logan.

Fast forward one month to the Golden Globes ceremony in 2018. Time's Up and #MeToo were central themes of the evening. Oprah Winfrey gave an impassioned speech after receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award, decrying "a culture broken by brutally powerful men. For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up." Watching at home, Patty Hearst heard Oprah's powerful speech and found the courage to speak up herself.

On January 11th, Hearst released a statement, denouncing Toobin's book, Mangold's movie, and an additional CNN miniseries about her. She spoke about how painful it was to relive her kidnapping and that she'd already written a book on her experiences, claiming that Toobin's book was written without her authorization. "I refuse to give Jeffrey Toobin ... Fox, CNN or anyone else involved in these projects about my life the power to make me a victim again, or the power to provide a platform where victim blaming is okay." Hours later, Fox axed the project.

A long-planned Richard Pryor biopic was killed by association with Weinstein

Hollywood has spent years trying to make a biopic about groundbreaking comedian Richard Pryor. Few men have been more associated with the failed attempts than Mike Epps. Before 2005, he was picked for the role by Pryor himself, but that particular project never came to fruition. Almost a decade later in 2014, Epps landed the role again, beating out Marlon Wayans and Michael B. Jordan for a new Pryor biopic by Lee Daniels.

The Daniels-led project was the closest anyone had come to making a movie about Pyror, and it had an A-list cast. Oprah Winfrey signed on as Pryor's brothel-running grandmother, Eddie Murphy as Pryor's father, and Kate Hudson as Pryor's wife. Tracy Morgan was even in talks to play Redd Foxx. But even with all this positive momentum, the project never got off the ground and quietly fizzled. During an interview with WBLS in 2018, Epps revealed why in blunt terms: "It was a Weinstein Company project so you might not see that one."

In October 2020, MGM won a bidding war for the rights to Pyror's story. Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is signed on as writer and director, and Richard's widow, Jennifer Lee, is attached as a producer. Here's hoping Hollywood finally nails this one.

A Gore Vidal biopic was axed in post-production due to Kevin Spacey's involvment

Most of the biopics on this list were shut down in pre-production or just couldn't get off the ground for one reason or another. Gore — a biopic about writer Gore Vidal — is markedly different. It was already done shooting and in post-production when it got axed, but it was a casualty of Kevin Spacey's #MeToo downfall. There was no option to copy All the Money in the World and reshoot Spacey's part in the movie with another actor, as he was playing the title role. Netflix, who was set to distribute Gore, dropped it and severed all ties not long after the accusations against Spacey started piling up.

Soon after Netflix dropped the movie, actors involved in the film began cautiously talking about it. Michael Stuhlbarg, who played Vidal's lover, Howard Austen, gave a measured response to The Daily Beast, saying, "It's heartbreaking when you put your heart into work, and it may not be seen. But it's important that there's sensitivity in the addressing of every aspect of what's going on. It's a complicated thing to talk about, and I believe we are going to be talking about it for a long time." He expressed hope that people might one day see the movie "in the light in which it was meant to be seen." A year later, BuzzFeed News acquired a copy of the shooting screenplay and — after finding multiple excerpts in which Spacey's character seduces young men and uses his power of them to get what he wants — deemed it unlikely to ever see the light of day.

Ryan Murphy's TV series killed Antonio Banderas' Versace movie

In August 2015, Antonio Banderas revealed on Instagram that he was attending a one-month intensive course at Central Saint Martins, a prestigious fashion and art college in London. The reason? He was prepping for the role of Gianni Versace. He was set to star in a movie about the murdered fashion designer by Danish director Bille August.

The movie was in pre-production when word came in 2016 that an upcoming season of American Crime Story would focus on the murder of Versace. The cast filled out through the early months of 2017, and in July of that year, Banderas revealed that his project had been canceled, in large part because of the upcoming Ryan Murphy series.

Banderas told The Hollywood Reporter that he ran into August at Cannes Film Festival, where they discussed their own project. "Because there was a TV show going on, that actually my friend Penelope [Cruz] is doing, we looked at each other and said, 'This movie doesn't make sense anymore.'" Banderas also acknowledged that with the benefit of hindsight, "I don't think I am Gianni." The two met several times, and Banderas recognized that the designer had a certain je ne se quoi he himself was lacking. There were also reports that August had a hard time getting the cooperation of the Versace house, who also had a frosty relationship with Murphy.

Taika Waititi was too busy to make a movie about Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles

In what's far and away the strangest entry on this list, yes, there almost was a biopic of Bubbles, Michael Jackson's pet chimpanzee. What's more, it was going to be stop-motion animation, and Taika Waititi was attached to direct.

The script topped the 2015 Black List, the annual survey of well-received yet unproduced screenplays. Taika Waititi signed onto the project in February 2017, alongside co-director Mark Gustafson, with Dan Harmon's Starburns Industries as producers. Netflix bought the package at Cannes in May 2017 for a reported $20 million. Waititi was thrilled for the movie, telling Deadline, "This film is not about Michael Jackson. ... It's about a chimpanzee's fascinating journey through the complex jungle of human life."

On May 15th, 2019, Waititi addressed the Bubbles movie during an interview with Deadline. He called it a "brilliant script" that he was hoping to develop between projects. The problem? Between finishing up Jojo Rabbit, other features, and some TV shows — likely including The Mandalorian — Waititi explained that, "I've actually had to start pulling out of other things, because I was just becoming too busy."

Just over a week later, Cartoon Brew confirmed that Waititi dropped out of the Bubbles project. His heavy schedule was given as the reason why, and Netflix — mostly interested due to Waititi's involvement — dropped the project, as well. Some, including Cartoon Brew and Deadline, also suspected the airing of HBO's Leaving Neverland made Michael Jackson a toxic asset.

Chris Benoit's family intervened to stop his biopic

The story of Chris Benoit is one of the most infamous and tragic events in wrestling history. The man was a worldwide wrestling legend, but a mere three years after winning the World Heavyweight Championship, he murdered his wife, Nancy, and seven-year-old son, Daniel, before taking his life in 2007. A combination of severe CTE, depression, grief, and a faltering marriage were all suspected as contributing factors.

Such salacious subject matter was always going to be fodder for a biopic. SRG Films announced via press release in 2011 that they would make a movie on Benoit's life titled Crossface, based on Matthew Randazzo's book Ring of Hell and written by new screenwriter Sarah Coulter. Nothing came of it, and the project went silent until September 2016, when new producers took on Coulter's script. This time they nabbed a director — Lexi Alexander, karate champion and director of cult classic Punisher: War Zone. Producer Alex Ginzburg even talked up Alexander to Wired in January 2017, saying, "She not only knows how to hit and punch but how to get punched, as well."

That Wired profile was the last anyone heard of the project for years, and we finally got an answer why in January 2020. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Benoit's son, David, revealed that the film was being made without the family's permission and included scenes they understandably didn't want shown. The family went so far as to hire a lawyer, and production got shut down. David Benoit expressed interest in a documentary, and three months later, the season premiere of Dark Side of the Ring covered the tragedy with family involvement.

Russ Meyer and Roger Ebert's story is a bit too uncomfortable now

Russ & Roger Go Beyond was a planned movie about the unlikely friendship between sexploitation director Russ Meyer and film critic Roger Ebert, specifically their collaboration on cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Will Ferrell was cast as Meyer and Josh Gad as Ebert. They even nabbed John Carney of Once and Sing Street fame as director. With a solid cast and creative team, this was a movie set to take Hollywood — and likely awards season — by storm. Production was slated to begin in 2018.

Then the accusations against Harvey Weistein dropped.

Producer David Permut, who'd been trying to get the movie made for a decade, told MarketWatch, "We had funding and were ready to make the movie. That green button turned into a red button literally overnight the moment the Harvey news hit the world." He noted that a meeting with the creative forces in the movie changed things. "The consensus felt by our director and Will Ferrell and Josh Gad was it wasn't the right time to tell the story about a Hollywood filmmaker who makes sexploitation movies." Permut himself didn't sound all that sold on the cancelation, believing there was a way to tell a historically accurate story, but he wasn't totally broken up. "A green-lit picture went away as a result of the changing times, but it is for the betterment of the world if we want to advocate equality for everybody."

Joni Mitchell stopped a biopic about her, Carly Simon, and Carole King

In 2012, news broke that Sony Pictures was adapting Sheila Weller's Girls Like Us, a book about the careers of Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King. Katie Jacobs, a producer and director on House, was slated to direct. Taylor Swift, who once told Rhapsody that Blue was her favorite album of all time, was reportedly in talks to play Mitchell. Alison Pill was often mentioned in connection with the role of King.

IndieWire reported that Allison Williams, Jessica Pare, and Analeigh Tipton were the leading candidates for Simon, and that Olivia Thirlby, Ari Graynor, and Zoe Kazan were all competing with Pill for King. However, Swift was quick to say that the casting wasn't confirmed, and that was about the last anyone heard of the project for a couple years

In a 2014 interview with The Sunday Times, Mitchell took credit for stopping the project. "I squelched that! I said to the producer, 'All you've got is a girl with high cheekbones. It's just a lot of gossip, you don't have the great scenes.' There's a lot of nonsense about me in books: assumptions, assumptions, assumptions." Mitchell has always been a private person, and Weller's book was written without her input. Her statement was enough to shut down the project.

Mitchell still got asked about the movie afterwards, saying in a 2015 interview with The Cut that while she never heard Swift's music, she saw the physical resemblance and why she was sought for the role. "I don't know what her music sounds like, but I do know this — that if she's going to sing and play me, good luck." Rolling Stone later got clarification from Swift's camp, with a rep saying, "It's a shame Joni keeps being asked about a movie that Taylor was rumored to be a part of. But this rumor, like many others casting rumors, is not true."

A Hugh Hefner biopic was scrapped due to serious accusations against its director

A biopic on Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has been in the works for years. Producer Brian Grazer acquired the rights to Hef's life story sometime in the late '90s or early 2000s . Brett Ratner was attached to direct around 2007, and Playboy Enterprises and Hefner were active parts of production. Ratner and Hefner openly courted Robert Downey, Jr., right around his 2008 career resurgence to play the lead role. Nothing seems to have come of this, and the project bounced around Universal, Warner Bros, and eventually Ratner's own company, RatPac.

In October 2017, just a few weeks after Hefner died, Ratner announced in The Hollywood Reporter that Jared Leto was on board. "When he heard I got the rights to Hef's story," Ratner said of Leto, "he told me, 'I want to play him. I want to understand him.' And I really believe Jared can do it." Ratner even brought Leto to the Playboy Mansion to meet Hefner, though the man was in failing health and not seeing guests. This excitement lasted less than a month.

In November 2017, right at the start of the #MeToo movement, Ratner was accused by a half-dozen women of sexual misconduct. Ratner's career collapsed instantaneously, with Warner Bros. severing ties with him and his production company. Playboy Enterprises quickly halted development on the project, which still hasn't resumed with or without Ratner. Leto also contradicted Ratner, with his camp telling The Hollywood Reporter that he "is not and was not attached to a Brett Ratner-directed Hugh Hefner film, nor will he be working with him in the future."

Nickelodeon welcomes back a returning show

Fangtastic! Monster High has been renewed for a second season at Nickelodeon. The decision comes just weeks after the first season premiered on the network. That first season has yet to wrap, but now the network is expressing strong faith in the series by giving a go-ahead for another year at the titular high school. This is a good sign for the Mattel toy franchise (upon which the series is based), which recently relaunched its line of iconic toys, giving a revamped look to its beloved characters.

Season 1 introduced us to the teenage kids of some famous monsters as they begin a new school season at the eponymous school. At the center are the quartet of ghouls, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, and Deuce Gorgon, who in addition to their academics, are seen developing their social and personal lives by learning to discover who they are and embracing their unique identity, while surmounting every obstacle to stand out as fierce and fearless beasts.

According to a report, the second season will look to further develop each of these characters and explore their background while "expanding on the theme of friendship." While season one contained 26 episodes, the sophomore season will include 20 episodes.

The Wizarding World won't be around for at least until couple of years

After the failure of the Fantastic Beasts film series, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to move forward with a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Wizarding World has experienced its own ups and downs through the years, but its momentum slowed down after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ended Daniel Radcliffe's on-screen adventure as the titular wizard in 2011.

Although the Fantastic Beasts movies did return to Hogwarts and even feature Albus Dumbledore in a significant role, some fans pointed out that it didn't have the same magic that the Harry Potter films translated on-screen despite it managing to expand its world and history.

Disney silently cancels Pirates Of The Caribbean

Disney has pulled the plug on its Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff led by Margot Robbie.

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie said in a an interview.

“We are developing two Pirates scripts—one with her, one without,” sources told the paper at the time.

Even though her Pirates spinoff fell through, Robbie has plenty on her plate. She will be promoting her upcoming film Babylon from Whiplash, La La Land and First Man director Damian Chazelle. She’ll also soon start filming an Ocean’s Eleven prequel, and of course, coming next summer is the much talked about Barbie movie.

Sprout Is Dead But Still Lives On Through DreamWorks Junior

Sprout was a preschool channel NBCUniversal acquired from PBS, Sesame Workshop and HiT Entertainment from the period of 2011-2013. Under the new ownership, the channel increased investment toward original programming.

The channel went to experiment with its offering by sourcing more half hours for older preschool audiences with shows like Noddy: Toyland Detective, Floogals, Kipper, LazyTown, The Wiggles, Poppy Cat, Nina's World and Justin Time.

In 2017, it was announced that Sprout would become serve as programming block to Universal Kids a new channel that wanted to aim toward older children with shows like Bajillionaires, Hank Zipzer, Polly Pocket and The Deep.

Universal Kids is not known by a lot of consumers internationally same with Sprout but for several years now the international feed has been known as DreamWorks Channel within the brand there's a preschool block known as DreamWorks Junior.

Unlike Sprout, DreamWorks Jr. doesn't offer much educational content as it follows the likes of Disney Junior and Nick Jr. that gear toward character driven shows or anything remotely similar but tone down to main brands Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.

No matter what opinion Sprout fans have over DreamWorks Junior, these type of content get viewers glued not that the offering on Sprout was bad but the world evolves and you still find alternatives like CBeebies and PBS Kids that do have a following.

Some of the content seen on this new version of Sprout includes Noddy: Toyland Detective, VeggieTales In The House, Doug Unplugs, Go Dog Go, Madagascar: A Little Wild and Dragons: Rescue Riders and you even get nostalgic content like Little Charley Bear and Olivia.

Although Universal Kids was said to have destroyed Sprout. DreamWorks Junior actually saved the brand from complete annihilation. I know the content ain't branded as Sprout but think about for a second.

Not a lot of households had access to Sprout and same outcome had fallen onto Universal Kids. If NBCUniversal had kept Sprout would it have survived the linear business especially now that more consumers are binging their favourite shows through their cellular gadgets.

This would be a huge blow for WWE as Seth Rollins became the top heel of the company and his injury altered their plans.

My knee from top to bottom was completely out. I was on the side of the road with a white sheet over me. That's how bad it was, I'm being dead serious. I moved and they screamed 'he's alive'. They put me on a gurney, cut my shirt off and I made a joke. I woke up with a neck brace on. I have a scar on my face and there's still a piece of glass in there.

He even discussed how he had to learn and do speech therapy again and meet several WWE stars.

I had to go to speech therapy and learn how to talk, I went to an independent show and I met Rhyno. He and I closer than most people care to know. He is family to me. He said "start jumping in the car with me on my off weekend". Every weekend, I was in the car with him. He let me pick his brain in for hours in the car. He introduced me to Person A and B. I ended up meeting Tommy Dreamer. He had a promotion he was running. The day his promotion was going. He asked me if I wanted to call the show. This  is what stated me on the road to WWE.

Kevin Conroy Known For Voicing The Titular Character In Batman: The Animated Series Dies At 66

Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman for three decades of animated TV, specials and video games, died Thursday. He was 66.

His death was announced by his rep Gary Miereanu and Warner Bros. A cause was not disclosed, but he reportedly had been battling cancer.

In a statement, Warner Bros. Animation said it “is saddened by the loss of our dear friend Kevin Conroy. His iconic performance of Batman will forever stand among the greatest portrayals of the Dark Knight in any medium. We send our warmest thoughts to his loved ones and join fans around the world in honoring his legacy.”

An actor with credits on stage, television and film, Conroy became a premier voice actor as the title character of Batman: The Animated Series (1992-96). He’d eventually give voice to the Dark Knight in nearly 60 different productions, including 15 films and more than 15 animated series spanning nearly 400 episodes and more than 100 hours of television.

Conroy also voiced Batman in dozens of video games and was featured as a live-action Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse’s 2019-20 “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.

“Kevin was perfection,” said Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker opposite Conroy’s Batman. “He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”

In recent years, Conroy was a fixture on the convention circuit.

“Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing – he was a dear friend for 30+ years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries,” said casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano. “Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.”

Born on November 30, 1955, in Westbury, NY, and raised in Westport, CT, Conroy attended The Juilliard School and, under the tutelage of John Houseman, studied alongside Christopher Reeve and Frances Conroy. He was, at one point, a roommate of Robin Williams.

Conroy began his stage career following in both New York and at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, playing Hamlet at the 1984 New York Shakespeare Festival.

On TV, he had recurring roles in Dynasty, Tour of Duty and Ohara and appeared on the soaps Search for Tomorrow and Another World. He had guest roles on Cheers, Murphy Brown, Spenser: For Hire and Matlock.

His voice acting career took off with Batman: The Animated Series, which debuted on September 5, 1992. Conroy’s association with the Dark Knight would continue with Batman Beyond and Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, Batman: the Killing Joke, Batman: Gotham Knight, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman.

“Kevin was a brilliant actor,” Hamill said in his statement. “For several generations, he has been the definitive Batman. It was one of those perfect scenarios where they got the exact right guy for the exact right part, and the world was better for it. His rhythms and subtleties, tones and delivery – that all also helped inform my performance. He was the ideal partner – it was such a complementary, creative experience. I couldn’t have done it without him. He will always be my Batman.”

Conroy is survived by his husband Vaughn C. Williams, sister Trisha Conroy, and brother Tom Conroy.

VH1 Is Making A Comeback On International Shores Through BET

VH1 started life as a music channel for older demos but gradually shifted towards reality TV, and more recently has targeted the African American audience. Bakish said:

“This strategic alignment will ensure VH1 − a leader in multi-cultural programming and the second largest US cable network for Black viewership − is best positioned for future success as a key part of the powerful BET ecosystem under the leadership of Scott Mills. Scott and his team continue to drive the evolution and growth of BET by building an interconnected set of leading platforms – linear, streaming, digital and studios – centered around the Black Community, Black Culture and Content.”

Bakish acknowledged the contribution of the MTV Entertainment Studios team under the leadership of Chris McCarthy and Nina L. Diaz, “who, for the past five years, have rebuilt the VH1 brand and produced powerful hit franchises from Black Ink Crew and Love & Hip Hop to RuPaul’s Drag Race. As Chris and his team continue to focus on integrating SHOWTIME and globalising the Media Networks Group, they’ll also partner with the BET teams to continue producing several of the existing hit shows on VH1.”

VH1 reaches approximately 90m households in the US but has gradually been phased out or rebranded with MTV variants around the world. BET, however, is going strong as a channel and streaming brand. Streaming service BET+ was launched as a JV between Paramount and Tyler Perry Studios in 2019, and has been growing fast.

The Truth About Michael Jackson's Stranger In Moscow

A ballad about a man merely trying to have his voice heard while by being crucified by the press.

“Stranger in Moscow” exemplifies Michael Jackson not as ‘The King of Pop,’ but simply as a man in a foreign land disconnected from the world.

“Stranger in Moscow” was written in a hotel room in Moscow, possibly between September 13–16, 1993, while Michael was on his Dangerous World Tour. The song would be released as the final single off the HIStory album in November, 1996. It is perhaps Michael’s most personal song, as his lyrics are direct and in the first person.

“Stranger in Moscow”

“I was wandering in the rain
Mask of life, feelin’ insane
Swift and sudden fall from grace
Sunny days seem far away
Kremlin’s shadow belittlin’ me
Stalin’s tomb won’t let me be
On and on and on it came
Wish the rain would just let me”

The opening verse speaks of a “mask of life,” a clear reference to isolation and despair which so often accompanies fame and fortune. Michael’s “fall from grace” refers to how the pop-star would be ridiculed, victimized and deemed a criminal by the press once the allegations of child abuse broke in 1993.

Up until this point, Michael was at the height of his success and in the midst of his record-breaking Dangerous World Tour. In response to the allegations, Michael recorded a statement from his Neverland Ranch which was televised worldwide on December 22, 1993. Of the media’s damaging treatment Jackson stated:

“I will say I am particularly upset by the handling of this mass matter by the incredible, terrible mass media. At every opportunity, the media has dissected and manipulated these allegations to reach their own conclusions. I ask all of you to wait to hear the truth before you label or condemn me. Don’t treat me like a criminal, because I am innocent.”

Michael has always had an indifferent relationship with the media. As he would suggest later in his career, “The bigger the star, the bigger the target.”

In an interview with Barbara Walters in Paris, 1997, Michael declared he disliked the name ‘Wacko Jacko’ — a name the mainstream and tabloid press often used from the mid 1980s:

Wacko Jacko — where’d that come from? Some English tabloid. I have a heart and I have feelings. I feel that when you do that to me. It’s not nice. Don’t do it. I’m not a wacko.

However, with the allegations directed at Michael in the summer of 1993, the media now had ammunition for a full character assassination despite the fact a police officer stated to the LA Times:

“No evidence (medical, photographic or video) could be found that would support a criminal filing.”

The media before 1993, were already invasive of Michael’s privacy, relationships and his changing physical appearance, as Michael suggested in “Leave me Alone”, but once the allegations were in the public domain, the mainstream and tabloid media went on the attack:

The New York Post on its front-page declared, Peter Pan or Pervert? August 23, 1993.

Newsweek on its cover page questioned of Michael, Is He Dangerous or Off the Wall? September 6, 1993.

Time stated, Michael Jackson: Who’s Bad? September 6, 1993.

As the remainder of the Dangerous World Tour was canceled, Michael retreated from the public eye in late November of 1993, in an attempt to end his drug dependency. Michael released an audio statement to the press:

“I was humiliated, embarrassed, hurt and suffering great pain in my heart. The pressure resulting from these false allegations, coupled with the incredible energy necessary for me to perform caused so much distress that it left me physically and emotionally exhausted. I became increasingly more dependent to the painkillers to get me through the days of the tour."

However, the media gave no sympathy to Michael whose emotional and physical health was at risk. Instead, the embattled star became the subject of taunts and ridicule:

The Daily Mirror held a “Spot the Jacko” contest which offered readers a vacation to Disney World. News of the World ran the headline, Hunt for Jacko the Fugitive. The Sunday Express headline read, Drug Treatment Star Faces Life on the Run.

How Does ‘It’ Feel?

In the chorus of “Stranger in Moscow,” Michael repeatedly asked the listener, “How does it feel?” What Michael is referring to is a question he has been asked so many times:

How does it feel to have the biggest selling album of all time? How does it feel to be admired by so many? How does it feel to be wealthy and famous? How does it feel to be so talented? How does to feel, Michael asks, “When you’re alone and you’re cold inside.”

“Here abandoned in my fame
Armageddon of the brain
KGB was doggin’ me
Take my name and just let me be
Then a begger boy called my name
Happy days will drown the pain
On and on and on it came
And again, and again, and again…
Take my name and just let me be”
Michael suggests it all means nothing when you feel isolated, disconnected and alone.

“Just Let Me Be”

Deemed a criminal, a forsaken man, Michael repeatedly asks the media to separate his celebrity persona from his true self. Michael is asking for privacy and for the public and media to understand that behind his image he is a man.

“Stranger in Moscow” concludes with lyrics spoken in Russian. The lyrics spoken by an unnamed individual lend to the feeling of paranoia, despair, fear and isolation of “Stranger in Moscow”, a ballad about a man merely trying to have his voice heard while by being crucified by the press.
